IMR4064 is a very good but somewhat dated, medium rate powder, very similar but not quite the same burn rate as Win748.

It's a single base powder, which means that it is 95% dependent on nitrocellulose for it's generated power. The other 5% depend on it's coatings, which in the old days could and did vary quite a bit from one extreme to the other of its acceptable burn rate and therefore temperature tolerances. It also means it doesn't use nitroglycerin for extra energy, like double base powders.

It's burn rate was controlled by its coatings, several of them, along with inhibitors that slowed it down. The graphite coating was to make it less able to hold a static charge, stop it from clumping and help it to flow through a tube, which it isn't great at.

I find that it always leave unburned granules in the bore or on the snow in front of the muzzle but velocities still stay consistent enough under most conditions that IMR4064 is still my go to powder for some of my more accurate rifles.

It's my go to powder for the 6.5 Carcano and 6.5 Japanese.
