What kind of bipod do I want for bench shooting my Bergara HMR?

I want to get a good bipod for medium-range [200-500+ yds] bench shooting. It seems to me that the Magpul bipods I have are a little light for a heavy rifle. I'm looking at a $100-200 budget...a little more if something really good presents itself. Also, do I want a 6"-9" or a 9"-12"? My Magpul bipods are M-Lok and I need a 1913 Pic rail mounting unit.

TruGlo looks good...Harris gets good reviews but hits the top of my budget.

Thanks for any ideas on the subject...

I have had great luck with Harris and own several. One is approaching 40 years old and has seen a lot of use and its still great, I have an Atlas and its awesome but a lot of coin to do the same thing. I personally wouldnt waste your money on any clone bipod. Look on the EE and buy a used Harris.

I’ve never had a Harris Bipod fail on me in over 35 years (Yeah, I’m that old)……

Buy what works for you and your game. Buy once and cry once. Get what you need and be done with it. Buy what you want without any regrets. :dancingbanana:

How about an MPOD?

Super stable... no issue with heavier rifle and higher recoil. If you want a bipod that offers the same accuracy as a competition pedestal rest, PM or email.

In all honesty save up and buy an MPOD things are crazy stable. After buying one I got the best groups off my life so far with factory loads at 100 with my centrefire rifles and does great with Rimfire out to 100 yards (as far as I shoot right now)

The only reason I would get anything else (which would be a Harris) if you’re shooting in competition and they require a folding rest to be in a different class.

I actually take my MPOD hunting with me because I trust it so much and know it’s going to be rock solid.

GRND POD is another option if it goes on sale somewhere.

You can get a Harris for 100-200 on sale or regular price.

For the type of competitions mentioned I would save a little more money and get the M-Pod but if you’re stuck hard and fast with the price then a Harris 6-9 with swivel off the bench is going to be good. The knock offs are good but I’ve had a couple over the years and they just don’t last due to being cheaper materials but if you’re planning on upgrading it’s cheap enough it could last until you decide to upgrade.

One that fits the bottom of your rifle is the best kind!

The wonderful thing about bipod attachment standards is that there are so many of them to pick from.

With Picatinny rail on the bottom of your fore end, look for one that fits that.

UIT/Anschutz rail is used by the benchrest crowd, and the MPOD (from Mystic Precision) fits that and is the most solid thing around, although it's a bit beyond your stated budget.

ARCA rail is used by the Precision crowd and is great for quick addition/removal of bipods and other support devices, or as a flat bottom to rest on a barricade. GRND Pod from MDT is a good choice there.

Some rifles have M-Lok fore ends, and then you can attach a bit of any of those rails or use a bipod that permanently screws on like the Magpul one.

Other rifles have a sling stud forward, and then the Harris that grabs onto that can be a reasonable choice.

Keep up this game long enough and you'll end up with at least one bipod of each flavour, and/or maybe some adaptors or attachment conversion kits.

Don't get cheap Amazon ones. I wasted alot of money on cheap chinese bipods. I found they wobble too much, and not solid. The construction are meh. They are only good for plinking.

I got a MPOD and also a good front rest.

I smile when LR accuracy is the goal BUT let's use the cheapest, floppiest, wobbliest option... cause you can save a few dollars.

How much is each rd of centerfire ammo, barrel wear, your gas and time to the range? I bet all in, we are looking at $4 to 5 per BANG.

How much does a rifle have to deviate at the muzzle to miss a small target at 500yds?

The difference between an MPOD and a not so stable bipod is like... 1 trips out ???... the MPOD is going to last the rest of your shooting days.

Or you can miss a bunch.. and spend again, and again, upgrading...

to me, missing is the most expensive cost in shooting.

YMMV
