My New Green Precision Rifle

Howdy,

Just thought that I'd share my recently-assembled "Green" Precision Rifle, consisting of a Tikka 20" Barrelled Action in 6.5 Creedmoor, installed in a Kinetic Research Group (KRG) Whiskey 3 Folding Stock Chassis System. The rifle is topped with a Nightforce 7-35X 56mm Advanced Tactical Riflescope (ATACR) with a co-zeroed Burris Fastfire 3 Miniature Red Dot Sight (MRDS) for quicker target acquisition through the primary magnified optic. I will shoot the factory Barrel until it is done for practical accuracy purposes, then rebarrel with something nicer. Here is the current build list:

- Nightforce 7-35x 56mm Advanced Tactical Riflescope (ATACR) in a Spuhr Picatinny Ideal Scope Mount System (ISMS) High Uni-Mount with co-zeroed Burris Fastfire 3 Miniature Red Dot Sight (MRDS) and Vortex Bubble Level with Tenebraex Scope Covers
- Timney 2-Stage Match 1-8 lb Trigger
- B+T Atlas Bipod (Claw Feet inbound)
- Leupold 20 MOA Picatinny Rail
- Lumley Arms Tactical Bolt Handle
- AtlasWorks aluminum Bolt Shroud
- Area 419 Muzzle Brake
- MDT 12-Round Magazine

Many thanks for the kind words, fellas! I'm not gonna lie - it took me a long while saving plus the recent sales of my "as new" Keltec RDB, A Cadex Guardian Lite .308 Precision Rifle and a Vortex Razor HD2 Optic to afford this rifle in the configuaration that I want. All-in, with everything other than the Barrelled Action and the repurposed Scope Mount and Bipod purchased new, the cost was just over $10K which I spread around our small handful of Canadian Precision Rifle vendors. It took months to save, but only days to spend!

I am looking forward to seeing how the rifle shoots this coming Thursday,. The weather is supposed to be a downright balmy 6C that day - perfect for first shots out of a new rifle build. I will be sure to post photos of my groupings if I am able to recover my targets without disurbing other firers. I am not expecting miracles out of the factory Cold-Hammer-Forged Barrel, however I do anticipate sub-MOA groups with factory Match ammmunition as stipulated by the Tikka Factory Guarantee. Once the Barrel is eventually shot out, I will replace it with something (hopefully) capable of superior sub-MOA accuracy. The major advantage of using a factory Tikka T3X Action aside from the buttery smooth bolt-throw and excellent aftermarket support, is the fact that Pre-fit Custom Barrels are readily available from Canadian vendors. No need to pay a premium gunsmih a king's ransom to Ream a Match Chamber and cut and crown the threaded muzzle, although the services of a qualified 'smith are still strongly recommended for the Barrel swap owing to some idiosyncracies with the T3X design.

All up weight as pictured is 15.5 lbs or 7.1 kg. That is nowhere close to what my boat-anchor Cadex Guardian "Lite" used to weigh at well over 25 lbs with Razor HD II, Falcon Bipod, etc!

I don't mind having a "heavier" precision rifle, as I find they tend to settle down on the bags better than a lightweight unit. I already have a couple of fairly light factory precision rifles in the form of a Christiansen Arms Modern Precision Rifle (MPR) and a SIG Cross, both chambered in the same 6.5 Creedmoor as my new build. That somewhat simplifies my ammo logisitics, although I still require .308 match ammo for my APC 308. Here are those two "Lights Out" tack-drivers:

- Christiansen Arms MPR rebarrelled with 26" Hardy Bros Carbon-Fibre-wrapped Barrel. Optic is a Leupold Mk5 5-25x 50mm wth Tremor 3 Reticle. Weight is 13.3 lbs or 6.0 kg:

- SIG Cross in 6.5 Creedmoor with 18" factory Barrel. Optic is a Vortex Razor "American Manufacturing Group" (AMG) Hunting/Precision lightweight cross-over scope with Christmas Tree Reticle Weight is 11.9 lbs or 5.4 kg:

I have to say, no matter how appealing Cross and MPR are, visually the Tikka setup is on a whole another level for me.
