Haven't seen any great prices on bulk ammo yet, lowest prices for .22lLR, .223, 9mm?

I love when people offer low ball on your ammo and then provide a link to a website, without realizing that stores charge tax and shipping...

and the fact that it's been out of stock for 2 years.

Or more!

I've had people point to stuff like this...this has been out of stock clearly for probably more than 4 years...

There are people who still think somehow, somewhere, you will find a box of 20 .223 for those prices from yesteryear and seem to use those out of stock, way outdated prices as their basis for finding a "good deal". Good luck to them, I say.

Yes, Cabelas had the Bronze .223 on Sale for $13.99 back in Nov. Luckily I bought a bunch a couple years ago so not 'needy' . . . yet.

I think also there should be something said about the secondary market like the EE. There are deals to be had - I have met a fair amount of people who sold their old guns and just want to get rid of the ammo and will unload it for a song. Sadly, on a more recent trend, due to the government's shenanigans, there have been people just getting out of hunting, target shooting and even collecting. They will post their ammo cheap just to get rid of it, sometimes at some insane prices.

Occasionally retail deals outside of the whole Black Friday time, do happen. I remember it wasn't that long ago - think it was late 2021 - that FOC had a sale on Winchester 5.56 box of 20...they were selling it for $11.95. I thought it was a misprint. Went there and bought as much as they were able to sell me. Granted those types of sales don't happen everyday but as is the case in many facets in life, persistence pays... It also helps that many on this site generously share deals when they find it so others can take advantage of good prices. Unfortunately ammo prices have risen to such a level so quickly that it's hard to determine what is a "good" price anymore.

On an unrelated note, Princess Auto has 50 cal polymer lockable and waterproof ammo containers for $7.99 (normally $13.99) through Sunday. Those have been fantastic in storing loose or excess ammo.

I just checked prices again today and it looks like G4C continues to have the cheapest prices for PMC Bronze, box of 20 for $14.99 ($0.75/round), or box of 1000 for $700 ($0.70/round/).

Other than that Cabellas is the only other option to get slightly cheaper Winchester 223 during their semi-frequent Wild Wednesday sales where you can get them for $0.66/round.

It's too bad we don't have access to another budget brand comparable to Barnaul (Wolf, Tula??) that could produce steel case for much cheaper than the PMC, Winchester selection we have today.

For low-cost steel-case ammo I've found that MFS is reliable and fairly accurate. Made in Hungary I believe. My LGS was selling .223 62g SP for $8.99/box +tx. I found it was very accurate in my Ruger American Stadard, about as good as Barnaul 62g SP.

Very true. I am surprised Barnaul isn't significantly cheaper for .223, compared to the PMC, etc.

The options for plinking are fairly limited. For varmint, hunting, or competition shooting there's a bit more variety. For just farting around at the range, it's pretty limited. Some mom and pop stores may split up bulk boxes into smaller baggies of bulk ammo. I was able to get some this way of some Winchesters a while back. Some PPU too, which I didn't even know came in bulk boxes. But cheap is cheap. For a while my club sold older ammo, but most of that has been bought and it's newer stuff now with more recent pricing. The EE and secondary markets may still be the best bet but I know it's not great to rely on it because you are fairly limited to your jurisdiction as most people will not ship ammo due to the understandably cost restrictive nature of shipping it through pretty much UPS. Even retailers may put a surcharge on shipments if it exceeds certain weight thresholds.

I have pretty much stopped buying retail and focus on the secondary market. The ammo prices have just up too much for me to load up on more...thankfully I have been loading up for 15 years, but I have been shooting through that stuff...I smile when I see the price stickers of what I paid back then but also develop indigestion when I realize what it costs to eventually replace it. Reloading is starting to become much more compelling than I had one considered it (and dismissed it)

$8.99 a box for soft points? I must look for this stuff...

That $8.99 was last summer, prob more now if available. Some online dealers had listed it around that cost back then, too.
Most places have been out of Barnaul for quite some time and if they have any it's no longer cheap.
PS - I just searched and found this MFS - $480/case Plus at least $40-50 shipping + 80-ish tax = ca $1.20 /round . . . Only ca $1/round if you're near Eagle firearms in SK and can pick up.

Barnaul will not get cheaper.

Don't forget Biden's Russian ammo ban.

The Barnaul that ships into Canada goes through the States first. Once the existing permits expire there will be no more Barnaul coming to Canada unless a shipping company creates a route directly to Canada.

Well, just guessing $30 for shipping that puts the cost around 0.15 -- 0.20 per round. If you can pick up it would still be over 0.10 with tax.
Pricey IMO

Why does it have to go through the US ? they can just ship it directly here . maybe someone who is a distributor with half a brain in this country could contact them directly and inquire about this . and have you noticed that the Federal blue bulk boxes that used to contain what 525 rounds are now only 325 rounds in a box . and they cost more ? why wouldn't they just leave the boxes at 525 and charge a little more ? greed .

I don't see any Fed 'blue box' listed as 325. That's the 'Automatch' which is now also called "Champion training". And all sizes of "Champion Training" is not 'true' SV but 1200+ velocity.
And yes, the 'Automatch' is now selling around $45+ for 325s, where a year or so ago it was on for ca $30 or less.

I think the Federal 525 round blue box value pack was the “Champion” rounds. Not sure what it means but I have one of these I bought a while back. Think these were over 1200fps as you indicated. Accuracy was not the best with these but they were cheap

I looked again at the Fed site and the 525 is 36g HP CuWash @ 1260. All of these over 1200 are OK for semi-auto as you get plenty of cycling, but accuracy generally falls off over SV @ ca 1160 I've found.
I still have a few hundred rounds of the Automatch in 325 boxes - fine for plinking in my Sav-64 and Marlin 60. They only cost $20 4-5 years ago!

That is nuts. It is funny how quickly we (or I should at least just speak for myself - I) get used to these exorbitant current prices. It really wasn't that long ago that bricks of stuff were fairly affordable. I am glad I left some of my old ammo with stickers on them....recently was moving stuff around the safe to accommodate some new .22LR I bought second hand...I found a brick of CCI Stingers that had a list price of $39.99. For a brick of Stingers. I don't even know how much a brick would be nowadays, but that was what, 15-20 years ago maybe? I have stopped buying retail completely and am trying to find deals on the secondary market. They can be had for sure, and sometimes a really good deal that can be had, for prices that go in the way back machine.

I remember I posted last year about how Tenda had a sale on Automatch - the 325 you mentioned. The sale price was $30.00 or so and I was like, wow, regularly $47.00 But apparently the $30 was the normal price only a couple of years prior, and even then, that may not have been the best value.

I could be wrong, but from the cursory glances I have seen at some online flyers from some of the site sponsors...are some ammo starting to go DOWN in price?

Some prices do seem to be trending slightly downward, during sales anyway.

Tenda is currently offering 124 Grain 9mm Blazer for $390/1000 and the 115 gr for $380/1000. Not great by any standard but the cheapest I've seen it in the last year or so. You also don't have to buy 2000 rounds to get this price and it includes free shipping.
