Black Creek Labs AR180 based rifle SVR2 Siberian approved for Non restricted FRT

I'm waiting for them to arrive at my LGS. It looks really promising... If they get the reliability down this really could be the best AR180 platform rifles we have.

The best AR180 platform in Canada? How so? How exactly is this going to be superior to the SAI R18 Mk2 or the Crusader Templar? Very curious as to what you know about this platform that the rest of us don't....

Just picked one up today. I’ll be trying it vs my r18mk2 to see how things go. Right out of the gate I can say it’s significantly lighter. Fit and finish is pretty good as well

Initial impressions are the weight is very nice and the body is slender vs the Sterling.

Non reciprocating charging handle is a nice touch, though I don’t care for the detented retention vs the magnet. It doesn’t feel as durable long term. Also I’d prefer a meatier handle personally.

Other controls have a nice feel to them and good feedback.

That’s all I can really say for now as a somewhat amateur shooter and having not fired it yet.

Any chance of a tear down so we can see gas system, gas block, bcg, etc?

I'm also curious to see if it's more forgiving with various replacement triggers than the R18 is.

Yes, please, with a double cherry on top!

And thanks, Snyuk, for taking the plunge, looking forward to your feedback!

As someone noted to me, BCL is the manufacturer shipping to a distributor; it will be be up to the distributor to ship rifles to retailers as they see fit.

As a kindly Instagram user let me know, BCL has released the Siberian's manual, https://www.blackcreeklabs.com/bclPub/uploads/2023/01/SRV2-Siberian-User-Manual-REV-A.pdf! I will snippet some screen shots when I get home tonight.

One tidbit is they suggest cleaning the gas system every 1500 rounds, including removing the gas block and cleaning the block and port. They suggest applying blue (high temp) Loctite in the threads when re-installing the block, which hopefully means it comes that way from the factory.

You can see in the piston has a gas cup style piece and separate longer piston section. Not sure if you can remove it without taking out the gas block first.

Not sure if this was posted before, but there's also a spec sheet, https://www.blackcreeklabs.com/bclPub/uploads/2023/01/SRV2-Siberian-Spec-Sheet-REV-A.pdf. Not sure if it has to wait until Bill 21 is settled, but specs for 7.62x39 mm and .300 Blackout are on it :)

One more thing to note from the manual is it appears the BCG, rail back plate, and distance between rails are narrower then then previous Canadian 180 designs, more akin to the SIG Spear LT or CMMG Dissent. Not sure how it will affect dependability if any, but it explains the svelter profile of the Siberian.

Interestingly, the manual states that it uses standard AR barrels. As long as the barrel nut doesn't require some proprietary tool it should be fairly easy to replace the barrel with something a little more quality. If that's the case I am less upset with the setscrew gas block lol.

Thread locking the gas block in concert with the more flexible and forgiving nature of the two part piston op rod at a mid length should be enough to prevent the piston snapping, hopefully.

If Bill 21 goes through , hopefully BCL can provide the bolt for the 7.62x39mm and .300 Blackout for sale; the bolt itself should not be prohibited, and what one does with it is ones own business.
