Bear hunt gone wrong

Pardon my French, but where the primer fell into.. ?

Watched through the whole video but can someone draw a rough picture or some thing splaining.

Right here... the screw didn't protrude far enough into the receiver and left a pocket for the primer to fall into. So the story goes.

I have a hard time visualizing how that could happen. The case would be held against the bolt face by the extractor, leaving the primer with no place to go until the bolt was far enough to the rear for the ejector to do it's work. By that time the case should have been well over the magazine.

Thanks for the visual and explanation. Seems like the biggest of flukes, so it would have been nice for them to show us this "AHA!" moment and repeat it.

I don’t have any bear hunting experience. Personally, I keep my shots to a reasonable distance to make a clean kill. An animal can move suddenly making what you thought would be a solid hit into a disaster. Seems there was a lot of factors affecting the shot, elevation, probably wind, cold temperature, etc. He should have been more patient to get a closer shot. My honest opinion.

He shouldn't have taken the shot. Too far, bear lying down, 2/3 of it obscured by snow... the rifle jamming was a fluke, I can't really fault them for not seeing that coming. She could have been packing a shotgun, if she didn't want to carry a rifle for legal reasons. Bad decisions compounded by bad luck.

It's hard to not be an armchair quarterback here. But I do think it's fair to say that a second long gun is smart, regardless of any other factors.

Weird/unexpected stuff is bound to happen if you live long enough. Many people don't realize that it can happen on hunt #1 just as easily as on hunt #1001.

Hunting mountains is just plain and proper hard, even when you’re in shape. The guy with the skin had his work cut out, that’s a well over 100lb load.

Their terrain there wasn’t bad, but physically it would have been much harder than it looks. The night under the sil tarp is mountain hunting 101, and it isn’t fun til it’s long over. There was always the Skywalker option.

Annoying people. Tried to watch it a couple of times. Accomplished hunters. Target shooting at a bear and being annoying. Did I mention they are both annoying can't watch the whole thing

That was a #### show... they did own up to some mistakes, but no mention of the untested cartridge load... they had a proven rifle but were using a hot load, it should have been a tested and proven load, not one spiked for this hunt. Also, shooting at 475 yards with that wind and conditions was introducing a lot of potential error. Glad they were OK in the end, and these stories should be told to help others be better prepared for similar events. Like not camping on a gravel bar in potential flood conditions while hunting grizzlies... ;)

Ain’t that the truth, I recount that story often, my side was a different sort of rodeo nowhere near as scary as yours. That channel run in the dark through the blown out logs and the river that morning, then stuck in the trees with a plugged jet ranks amongst my least favourite times out there.

But… makes for memories, that’s for sure. The mouse stands out to me. :d

She’s way out of shape, huffing and puffing can’t see her carrying a gun. She’s the spotter telling him to take the shot yet she doesn’t know if he hit the bear.

Can’t see a small piece of primer locking up the rifle because it’s sitting in the action screw hole.

Too bad the bear didn’t get its revenge
She literally owns an online fitness company. She's likely in very good shape.

Pretty crazy, they likely would not be around if they had not found the pistol on the snow, wildlife is no joke. Some people dont seem to understand this.

A friend of mine went out deer hunting and decided to shoot a brown bear with his 3030. I can't remember the whole story because I wasn't impressed with him. They walked up to it when it was down and it took a swipe at him wrecking his jacket. Some other dumbass he was with finished it off with a 12 gauge slug. I don't really understand how some reasonably smart people turn in to complete idiots as soon as they get in to the bush.

The same guy was telling me my Norinco a1 1911 was automatic. That's what the A stands for apparently...

That's my problem she talks and talks like it's reality TV and he's not a serious bone in his body. Then all the bear charging the bear was walking towards them. No way I can take any of it seriously.

Yup, errors in judgement aside, it surely does make for a good yarn... one of only two times where I thought for certain I was a gonner... pretty sure the mice felt the same way. Lol.

She also shot a bull moose in self-defence with a .454 Casull last season.

I find people with a lot of exciting stories with close calls are either foolish or full of $hit. Honestly couldn’t watch the whole thing. Seemed like your typical U-tuber looking for attention.

Never had a close call because of an animal, but several because of bad luck poor planning and arrogance ,which ends the same way ..dead
