Would you buy a rifle that is on the looming C21 amendment list?

If he gets his kids thru school with an ability to earn their way, they will have a future. He is smart enough to know where his priorities are. There is no scenario where tending to family obligations would be secondary to buying a Fnnn semi-auto rifle. Frankly, this doomsday nonsense gets a bit old. Check out the size of our military and you will feel a bit less concerned about some "authoritarian state" that you elected decides to squash you.

If he thinks paying $10s to $100s of thousands for a child’s post secondary education is wise…he is not himself. Post secondary has been useless since I went there, in 2009…only gonna be worse now or down the road.

A job requiring a $50,000.00 education still wants to pay you minimum wage or make you wait a year for #### benefits

Welcome to the real world. You get paid for what you are worth to the company. You may have chosen a profession that, frankly, the private sector has little use for OR your profession is one that exists in the third world where the equivalent of Canada's minimum wage keeps a family of four in the third world in Tesla's.

I assume your definition of Post Secondary Education also includes Technical Schools. Had you entered say, a Power Engineering program and completed it to the Level of a Journeyman you would be making somewhere in the neighbourhood of $150,000 to $200,000 per year working for Suncor or most any other private company that requires a Power Engineer these days. Life is about choices.

About 30 years ago a good friend of mine had a daughter who went to UofA and got a degree in Social Services. She found out when she graduated that her skills took her to a comparatively low paying job. Why, well at the time Social Workers in Alberta were plentiful and demand was low. Choices

As a father I have no regrets in saving for both my son's education. One went went to University for two years. One of which I suspect was a 7 month party. He eventually settled on a trade and now makes a six figure income. with a decent pension plan. The 2nd went to college for one year, was bored to death, dabbled with his own start up in IT and found there was not enough money in it so he ended up with a Journeyman ticket in scaffolding which led him to an opportunity to complete a Journeymen's ticket in Power Engineering which led him to a six figure income, stock options and a pension. Choices.

My advice to my Grand-son will be choose well with your skills you have and enjoy life. There is no sequel.

ps A parent who chooses to provide for his family before his/her toys is a parent indeed. Just saying. Choices.

What it comes down to is buy what you can now, because in the future you probably wont be able to get it through legitimate means.

On another note, when I was young, I didnt care about my dad's hunting rifle....and now my sister's ex has it, much to my chagrin...

I really have to draw the line on some dreamers asking over 13K for an M78.....what kinda koolaid are they drinking???

Forget the court. The OIC will still be in affect. It is legal and won't be undone until we see a change in Govt. The AR situation won't change. I would not expect much from the courts on legislation that hasn't passed. Again, change the Govt and C21 disappears with new legislation. We are going to have laws restricting the use and ownership whether we like it or not it just becomes a question of what might be reasonable and politically possible.

With Sask. having written some gun legislation and Alberta contemplating writing their own Firearms Act it may be a case where the Feds bow out of this topic leaving it up to the Provinces to decide what is reasonable and what is not. The latter would be a boon to most of the West and North. Quebec and Ont
not so much.

i wish it that simple but do you have today a political party that announced they will get rid of any laws going against legal gun owners because we had a bunch since 1936 ...

Nope, no Political Party is going to end ALL firearm legislation and frankly I am not sure that would be a good idea anyway. Do I think there are a lot of regulations that should be eliminated...Absolutely. The Conservatives have made it clear the OIC rules would be rescinded and any new laws passed by the Liberals would be rescinded. Here is a quick list of regulations I would ask Pierre to remove or amend.

1, Rules regarding the AR and the so called "Assault Rifle" firearms are nothing more than motherhood rules that are needless, and do nothing and have zero effect on violence in our community. Select fire and fully automatic firearms would continue to be banned in Canada. This type of firearm would become in Law the definition of an Assault rifle ie select fire or fully automatic.

2. I would ask Pierre to reduce the restriction on semi-auto to 16" to be compatible to US regulations. In a perfect world there would be no restrictions. I just don't see it as being politically saleable. The retriction would only require registration. Semi-auto rifles with a barrel length under 16" would not be restricted to range use only.

3. All mag restrictions would be removed for pistols and rifles. For hunting, Provinces could restrict mag capacity for both rifles and shotguns within their hunting regulations when individuals were engaged in hunting. Hunting would or could be allowed for revolvers with a barrel length =or > than 6" by Provinces.

4. I would remove to "Prohib" designation for ALL revolvers and pistols. All would be restricted to range use with exceptions for Wilderness Carry (Fishing, Work, Camping and hiking would all be available under this exception). Authorized Personal Carry for Self Defense outside of those exceptions listed would be allowed but would have to be approved a Judge.

5. All rules regarding storage and would remain in effect.

6. The present PAL regulations would remain in as is. however, when are revoked revocation would require enforcement including random Annual inspections by law enforcement. Minimum sentence of 2 years with no parole if an individual is found in possession of a firearm.

7. Sentences for Armed Robbery, Assaults using firearms would have a minimum sentence of five years with no chance for parole.

8. I would not allow bureaucrats or Law Enforcement eg RCMP the ability to define or make rules concerning firearms outside of what is passed into law.

Whatever regulations you remove the anti gun crowd will loose their minds so do 3. and you want add to their complaining and noise.

I am sure there are other parts of the present firearm regulations I would remove or amend but the above would be a start. The Conservatives have to realize that whatever they do the antis will lose their minds ie Remember the streets were going to run red if we eliminate the Long Gun Registry and low and behold nothing happened when Harper got rid of it.

Lastly, I would acknowledge the right to own property within the regulations. This would not stop governments from seizing firearms but compensation would have to be commensurate with value and such seizures would have to pass a "reasonable" test. eg Removing firearms because less than 300 murders take place annually in Canada would not be a reasonable reason. This would remove the knee jerk reaction we see today by governments.

If this post doesn't generate both critics and further discussion noting will.

ps. For medical reasons I would legalize the use of suppressors on rifles.

Depends how you look at it.
- Compared to some baseball or pokemon cards... they're a deal!

100%. I have a number of collectible (some, very) hockey cards and if there was a firearm that I really wanted, I would have no hesitation selling one or more to use the proceeds to buy said firearm. I personally cannot fathom why anyone would pay tens of thousands of dollars for a sports collectible card or sports memorabilia, over something that can practically be used for enjoyment and utility like a firearm. Maybe that's just me.

But if I had a Mickey Mantle rookie card slabbed by Beckett, I'd be at the first auction house trying to unload it for fair value and buy something I personally find a bit more practical. There are those people who will put a re-mortgage on their home to buy some collectible baseball card. To each their own, I guess. And as for Pokemon, yeah, I don't understand that in any way, shape or form.

Canuck44 for Prime Minister!!

Except for the fact he agrees with the banning of full auto for all of us except government enforcers.
If one buys into the concept that gun control is good, even a little bit, that leads us to where we are today. A slippery slope that eventually ends with everything becoming illegal.

I just have to comment here. Yes, everyone makes choices. The young girl made a stupid choice here. As young people all too often do.
But her parents should have been smart enough to tell her that her choice was stupid, and encouraged her to get a useful education in some better direction. That's good parenting.
If the girl were my daughter, I would not have paid for her "socialist services" so called degree.

Cocked&Locked there is no way in this Universe full auto firearms are going to be lawfully owned and used in Canada. Get over it. Use that argument in front of voters and see where you get. Please don't get into a "rights" argument. Unless the Feds convinces 7 Provinces you have gun rights you don't have any under our Constitution. That, unfortunately is our reality, a reality we have to live with. Millions of us own firearms a fact Trudeau found out a month ago.

As an aside, her parents discussed her options with her. She, like a lot of young people entering adulthood made hers.
