PAL Wait Time

Well the day has finally come.

Received Aug 30 2022
IWS and CC Charge: Oct 26 2022
Approved: Feb 22 2023

Coincidentally, I emailed them yesterday. Received a reply today to say I was approved. I'll provide an update when my card arrives.

You waited pretty short for multiple boxes.

Don't mind if I ask which?

Did you get an interview and how was it like if so?

i got an interview, and to the firearms/violence related ones. when i was younger my friends did something stupid while i was present and because i chose not to say anything, i had to suffer some of the consequences.

the interview was very quick and short. the lady i spoke to was named tracey and she was very nice and professional. she contacted my references after our 10 minute phone call and then called me back about an hour later to say i was approved.

I am new here and going over some of these replies in this thread I am a bit concerned about my situation.

Application received- June 9th.
CC charged- Jul5th

I've been waiting almost 8 months. I've called two times only to be told application is in the final stages of review. Never been arrested, 2 speeding tickets, job history good, I applied for a PAL not RPAL. I live in rual northern BC. Last time I called the fellow on the other line said I can review my status thru the RCMP website. All I get is an error msg. I told him that and he said I must be entering the data wrong. I am not. I find the whole process is taking way too long. I have friends near Vancouver who did the RPAL at the same time as me and they both had their RPAL in 3 months. Any tips or thoughts ?

Status says they completed initial review, so now just waiting.

You are going to be waiting a very long time my friend. Im currently at the 9 month mark so I should be getting mine by the end of march that’s what the cfo told me 🤷🏾#♂️

Well that was a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Did they give a reason? I don't understand how something 20 years ago could still have an effect?

I think he said this year he had gotten into a fight?(edit:nvm)

Though wait, 2 convictions of assault = lifetime firearm prohibition order? First is usually 10 years next is life, yes pretty harsh.

I suspect that this is what this is tho, they wouldn't have denied him only after 4 months otherwise.

Btw, how's your friend who had a peace bond been doing since you broke the bad news to him?

Hope he's alright.

Talked to him yesterday actually. He seems to think C21 is off the table, or at least won't go through. Good for him I guess, ignorance is bliss.

I applied in September of 2022 and the portal only states the initial review has been completed. It is now March 2023. I was born in Canada. I do not think your place of birth is the issue. Not sure why some people are getting their licenses in under two months while some of us are stuck in limbo. Strange.

A buddy and his wife did the course just over a year ago. He got his RPAL just before the handgun freeze and was able to get a Glock 19X.
His wife however, nothing.
She waited and waited. There were no calls, no letters, no contact, no nothing.
She started asking me if I knew what was going on. I told her to call the CFC and inquire.
Always the same answer, still processing.
I told her to contact the CFO's office directly but she's dealing with a sick adult daughter, so she didn't have the time to push it any further.
I told her they will have to respond eventually with a yes or no. They can't go dark and hope you go away.
Fast forward to yesterday, she's approved. YAY!!!
She's glad it finally came through but unfortunately because of the delay, she's missed out on getting a handgun.

The way I see it, if they haven't reached out with any serious concerns or questions, it's probably just the system moving at it's usual snail's pace.

Just pal or both? Did you do anything or just waited?
I applied Dec 19 online and status still is initial check completed :bangHead:
