SRV2 Siberian Reviews

i doubt cast. to me (non-expert) from what i saw in the pics i'd suggest improper heat treatment making it super brittle. if you couple that with the bolt carrier sticking in the upper (tolerances too low and the bolt carrier moving and binding) like in the other post you get it loading in ways it wasn't designed for and boom it comes apart.

or maybe something up with the cam pin - that would bind in the upper and looks to be where the bolt carrier failed.

The BCG are cast ?

Is that 100% correct? Or speculation?

Well, we need proper metallurgy experts to tell if it is cast or powder metal, or, as some suggest just improper heat treatment. From my understanding and experience it is very likely cast or PM, and doesnt look at all like machined from single piece of hardened metal.
BTW heat treatment and machining are the parts of process for both cast metal parts and parts made from single piece of steel. So one needs to be more specific.

Well I got a chance to put some rounds through a buddy's Siberian again today. I brought a spare (high powered) optic I had so I could do some accuracy testing at 100 yds. Shot 62gr greentips and a known performing load with 75gr HPBTs (23.6gr IMR 8208 XBR). 10rnds of PMC 62gr greentips grouped a hair over 2.5 moa and the 75gr load was 2.5 moa, however 1 round opened it up (and that case had a split neck so I dunno?) otherwise it was 1.5 moa. Groups were shot prone off a bipod and rear bag. I'd say pretty acceptable accuracy. A good trigger and some load dev or other match ammo and I bet it shoots about 1.5 moa. It didn't like my (Gen 3) pmags though. I noticed that for whatever reason the front of the mag could be pushed up a bit in which case the the bcg would drag on the next round and the bolt wouldn't go fully into battery. Didn't seem to happen with Cross mags though. I've found other Canadian 180s to be fussy about mags though so if it were me, I'd just try a bunch of mags and see what it likes.

I had mine out today for 150 rounds in -18. I took it out of the box, slapped on an optic and flash hider, no lube, pre-disassembly, or anything. All 55-grain Western Metal factory reloads.

Functioned flawlessly with MDT 10 Rounders, PMAGs, and C-Products pistol mags. The Cross Mags I had did have one malfunction, possibly a short stroke, it just didn't pick up the round and the mag was seated correctly. They worked fine the rest of the day though and all magazines dropped free.

Didn't get too much accuracy testing because it was cold, but it consistently hit a 6-inch plate at 50 just shooting while standing.

Pros: The finish is very nice, and the thin diameter rail and weight just feel right. I do not find the rifle front heavy at all, the action is smooth and the Zhukov stock is nice and solid. The height of the stock to rail is similar to my x95, so a little taller optics mount is nice. Nothing was loose when I went over it after the initial firing, time will tell if everything stays tight.

Cons: The charging handle is a POS. If BCL sees this, PLEASE make a large folding charging handle, even if it is aftermarket. any optics mounts that stick out at all will wreck your knuckles and overall it is just too small. The trigger and safety are crap, but so were the factory ones on my Sterling r18, Kodiak Wk180 Gen2, and any basic factory AR15 I have purchased n the past. They are easy to be replaced and will be, for now, they function just fine and are what I expect.

Overall, I will keep this over my Kodiak which EVERYTHING came loose- the gas block to the point of malfunctioning during a range session! I also prefer it over the Sterling R18, Mainly because of its weight. I found the Sterling to be a 308 gas gun in size and weight and would make a better "bench" or DMR-style gun if that is how you shoot.

I plan to just keep running it to see what problems occur, with no cleaning or tightening until I have to. I will update you if anything arises

I suppose 150 rounds is a pretty good start for these rifles. I'd be interested to see what happens at 1500 since this seems to be the failure point for other 180 pattern rifles on the market.

The platform doesn’t really interest me the ar180b original seemed to be the best of the bunch maybe I’m wrong here

Sounds like BCL has diagnosed the broken BCG as a stuck firing pin, and is sending all current owners new firing pins and shipping all new rifles with new firing pins out of the box.

Well-well-well, we'll what's to blame for the next brittle carrier. But I acknowledge they do make great effort in their customer service.

Here is the last paragraph to that statement.

Black Creek Labs will be immediately sending all current SRV2 owners that have an AR180 firing pin a new SRV2 firing pin. It is highly recommended that live ammunition is not used in the rifle until you install your new firing pin. Firing Pin style can be identified as per diagram A.
Please contact carrie@blackcreeklabs.com for information on receiving your SRV2 firing pin.

My problem with them is the same issue I have with Vortex. Sure their customer service for rectifying broken stuff is really good, but it would be better if that stuff worked from day one. Classic example for all I know Aimpoint has horrible customer, but I wouldn't know because my Aimpoint has been working for a decade with no sign of any issues and the other 2 about half a decade with no issues. My opinion is the best customer service is the one the customer never has to use because the product just works.

If Vortex only made the Razor we'd never hear anyone complain. Especially now that the gen 3 is out, which is legitimate alpha class.
Low end stuff costs less for a reason.

People are hoping for Sterling or x95 quality from a rifle that's $1000 less. We should be comparing it to rifles that are +/- $250 from it, like the Templar and the WK180. If all they've had are two carrier failures in the first few months, it's already head and shoulders above the POS WK180. The real question will be how it stacks up to the Templar, which so far has proven to be reliable.

Update on rifle; another 200 rounds fired including in a CQB style action match. Functioned perfect through the event, will tear rifle down for a cleaning and inspect for any abnormal wear showing and install updated firing pin when it arrives. Overall very pleased with its performance thus far.

They are getting destroyed on reddit, these seem worse than the WK180 launch when the bolts were eating the receivers

You guys need to check out reddit r/canadaguns

There have been many many posts about BCL Siberians failing, all with pictures and write ups. Those of you that don't use reddit should do so, CGN is kinda old and stuffy, most only use it for the EE

off the top of my head:

- Bolt carriers popping apart - https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/...rrier_failure/
- Cocking handles getting stuck and multiple stoppages in just 120 rounds including the upper and lower becoming loose - https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/...ian_range_day/
- Wondering gas blocks - https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/...he_same_flaws/
- Very stiff folding stocks and poor trigger - https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/...xing_and_tear/
- Cross threaded handguard screws - https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/.../bcl_siberian/
- Large number of jams and issues in just 200 rounds - https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/...terrible_luck/

Of course the fact that you need to remove the blooming gas block to clean the gas system is insane, what were they thinking?

Oh and all the above posts were in JUST THE LAST 30 DAYS, who knows how many more there are to come

The problem with Reddit, is that it is full of younger users, many of whom are brand new to the world of firearms and therefore contribute blinding statements of the obvious or have great difficulty in diagnosing and solving basaic firearm problems. Those same Reddit users are often immature and prone to excitable hyperbole. Sorry, but I'm 57 and I rather prefer "old and stuffy" adult-oriented forums, since they don't use MSM-speak or made-up words that I do not understand. Furthermore, forums such as CGN may appear "old and stuffy", but they are where you are going to find your older, more experienced firearms owners and users who KNOW how to diagnose stoppages and implement immediate solutions. Just saying. I love the unbridled energy and enthusiasm that I see on Reddit, but simply cannot stand the frequent immaturity and lack of experience that the users of those platforms exhibit. I reckon I'm just a grumpy old man who likes to associate with like-minded fossils of a bygone era. At least we tend to know what we're talking about.... if we can remember what it is we were just discussing!!

It's 2023. What semi auto black rifle are you going to find new today for $1000-$1200? Those are 2018 prices.

Sadly you are correct.
There isn't much out there for that price point other than a smattering of PCCs, The T-81, and a bunch of decent quality bolt guns if one was still wanting to shoot .223.

For less money than these, but still above $1200, there is the Keltec RDB, Norc. T97, the MSR and WK180.

I think they have priced themselves out of any meaningful market share. imho.

I am a member on reddit and also on some fb groups. I have a hard time reading that stuff people post. My partner's son is 15 and more mature than those kids.
