What was your last big game taken with

Last two yrs was an 1885 Win Shot Show Safari edition in 300H&H, for 7-8 yrs before that a Krieghoff SxS 30R Blaser. I'll likely go back to the K-gun next year, but, do have a Tikka in 6.5CM that needs blooding too.

I don't count deer as big game and Moose are only a maybe.

This big Black Bear was nearly big game. I shot it on a solo hunt up at the north end of Harrison Lake, B.C. sometime in the late 80's, I think.
Used a Steyr-Mannlicher "Professional" (the plastic one) in 30-06 w/ 180 Gr. Nosler Part.

I got a spike horn on my hunting trip to NB in November. I have to chuckle I spent a pile having a custom LH Rem 700 built with a Shilen match hunter wieght barrel in 6.5-06 for shooting 300 yards and I popped him at 42 yards.

It was a wet and rainy day, but I was going to a blind and have seen plenty of deer in that weather. He came in a couple hours after light and took his sweet time moving into a spot I was happy shooting him in. Brought the rifle up, pulled the trigger, and CLICK! No bang! When I loaded the stupid thing I pushed down on the top of the last round as I closed the bolt. Luckily everything was wet and dripping so he heard the noise but did not react other than to pick its head up. The next 5 minutes (seemed like an hour) was me slowly bringing the rifle back in the gun slit and stopping every time the gun made a click or thump as I reloaded and aimed again. Went bang the second time. .

What do you consider big game then?

In Canada? I would say Polar Bear and maybe a big bull Walrus...nothing else really qualifies...maybe some really big coastal Grizzlies? But all three seem to be off-limits to most hunters these days.

I always thought of the members of the deer family, even Moose and Elk, as being medium game. I have shot plenty of Blacktails, Mulies, Whitetails, and Moose, but I never thought I was hunting "big game."

Maybe I'm wrong. I could have the term "big game" confused with "dangerous game."

Hunting regulations in Canada are often divided by "Big game" and "Small game." It's a category of game, not their literal sizes...

Last 4 deer and 1 Black Bear 240lb (2 big bucks and 2 does) taken with Ruger Ranch 350 Legend.
Drops them where they stand. 7lbs with scope and wicked accurate.
My whole camp has taken 10 deer with 350 Legend of various Manufacturers. All are cloverleaf rifles.
Winchester 150Gr (Whitetails) and 180Gr (Black Bear) is all we use.

Right...the government re-defining language. This reminds me of a few years ago when the Federal government wanted to legally re-define empty brass as an "explosive."

Czar Alexander III of Russia is the big guy standing with a cane behind the woman on the right. His eldest son, who will become the last Czar Nicholas II, is standing behind the dead buffalo.

It's a Wisent. European Bison (Bison bonasus). Pronounced "Buy-son" in America and "Why-son" in Europe.
Supposedly making a bit of a come-back. (See map.)
I think you can still hunt Wisent in Poland. Very expensive and severely restricted though.

Anyway...livestock or "big game?" I know wild Bison in North Am can be dangerous, but so can a lot of ordinary open range cattle.

I know I'd like to see photos of successful Canadian Bison hunts.

You can hunt wisent in Belarus but I’m not sure that’s related to a sustainable population.

I wonder what the deal with the small numbers in Spain and Western Europe is. Reintroduced?

Your classification scheme seems to jive with the historical British one if the shotgun shells are any indication: SG (small game) shells containing buckshot
