Mannlichers....

Only 7 lb?...so just over 8 lb. with a small scope?...that's not bad...it looked heavier. Some modern European Stutzens are quite heavy, apparently designed for the stand and not for carrying.

For instance, I know the full-stock Bavarian Sako 85 can weigh close to 10 pounds (depending on the wood density), and that's before scoping it. Quite a log to carry all day. I once had a factory original full-stock Tikka M-65 in 6.5x55 that was even heavier, so there must be some who like them. For me, 8 lb. incl. scope is about right.

Can you tell us more about the Sauer carbine? I've never seen one.

404 carbine

Very nice! by 404 I take it is a 404 Jeffrey?
Looks about perfect for a bongo, forest buffalo hunt! And will handle any troublesome elephant one may encounter at spitting distance in the thick jungle!

Or Brown bear in an alder thicket!

Edit: Looked it up...Model 404.
What cartridge is it chambered in?
In 9.3x62 would still be great for hunts mentioned, not to mention many other big game hunts!
