Ultra short barrels, do they have a use ?

The titewad has worked well in every gun I've used them in. I have them in my huglu 200ace right now. Haven't patterned that gun yet with turkey loads

Cheers to that! I'll be trying out some grouse loads as well as duck loads with mod choke. I have a small layout boat (beavertail final attack) and my 28" barrel is a pain to tuck away and remove so I have a feeling this gun will be used a lot lol

I hunt mostly from a kayak now. I can easily use it as a layout boat and it works wonders. I switched to a Beretta 1301 comp with a 21" barrel. The 13" lop is perfect for when wearing waders and a life jacket and coat

Short shotguns are just plain fun. Aside from plinking at stuff like icicles, clays, etc. I have used a 14" Fabarm pump and also a 14" Ricol O/U, both equipped with choke tubes, to take one turkey apiece. The Ricol had fibre optic front and rear sights on the rib; the Fabarm had a red dot. Bonus: the Ricol, when you replace the turkey tubes with a couple of IC tubes, is ridiculously well-regulated with slugs and has taken two deer as well. Classic? No. Fun? Absolutely!

I also had an 870 Police 14" gun with a Shockwave-type pistol grip on it, which just barely squeaks by as legally NR. No chokes, never hunted with it, almost always shoot from the hip, and enjoy it tremendously. I don't need every gun I own to be practical...but if you do, a toy like this is ideal to practice instinctive shooting.

The first time you break a hand-thrown clay ten feet above the ground, on its way down...firing a pistol-grip shotgun from the hip...I defy you not to smile. :)

Definitely sounds like a damn good time!

Even the word Blunderbuss puts a smile on my face..... :)

OG hand-cannon.

Off-hand
- Sh!t & giggles
- Hunting small games in dense wood
- Easier to carry on the motorcycle
- Piss-off a Liberal

As a real young punk I wanted to be a pirate, so short barreled double straight bore guns were attractive from an early age..... I regret not picking up a Howdah Hunter before hell froze over.

If we're going to play silly... might has well go-full-silly!
- I'll take double-barrel flintlock blunderbuss with center-mounted spring bayonet

Oh Hell yeah!

I had a 12” 870. The idea was to pack on hikes or when I go river fishing.
After a few outings. I realized it was just a heavy beast to pack.

For what I wanted it for a 20g single shot with a short barrel would have been much better.
Now I just don’t bring anything for the most part unless it’s in spring bear or in the fall. The. I just pack my 30-30

At the extreme risk of being called a Fudd, gun-snob, arsehole, old-codger, irrelevant sell out….anyone considering bringing a super short shotgun to an ORGANIZED club to shoot skeet or trap with people you don’t know, please be mindful that your gun is very loud and is obnoxious to people who don’t appreciate it. Extremely short guns also tend to be less controlled with the short muzzle kinda whipping around more than a long barrelled gun. Be careful to mind where it is pointed and keep it obviously open and unloaded for your shooting mates.

When I was a teen, I had a friend who got a pistol gripped Winchester defender. We all thought it was super-cool and each went out to shoot a box of Canadian Tire shells at a cardboard box at 10 paces. First and last time I bothered with it. He sold it fairly quickly.

we need to attract new people in the sport not making them run away ...

Many gun clubs, including mine, do not permit shotguns with barrels shorter than 26" or that do not have a full stock to be used on clay target fields. Our club banned the stubby "shotties" a few years ago as there were issues with both the guns and people using them. No loss.

I've tried shooting clays with a H&R Handi-gun. (the .410 pistol). Nobody else could hit anything, but I managed 2 out of 3. Probably just lucky, so I quit while my bragging rights were intact. It was fun, so I'll probably go back to it someday. Mind you, this was just back-yard shooting at close range, no attention paid to regulation distance and angle.

We just banned shotguns completely as there was issues with both the guns and people using them, no loss.

We don’t need the Libs to ban guns…

Ya know, I've been a Fudd since way back when the name was first used for a specific sub-group of the shooting world; my Fuddness predates the point at which the word started to be used as a derogatory term. I think of myself as a Classic Fudd...as opposed to the New Fudds that are so thoroughly (and understandably) despised by the younger set of shooters often heard on CGN and elsewhere.

Reading some of the responses to this thread, I have to wonder: who needs Liberals when you have New Fudds around?
