400 Yard Elk cartridge . what's your Pick

Whats the minimum in terms of scopes that track well enough to keep up with all that dialing?

Nightforce, swfa, trijicon, some bushnells. Rokslide seems like the only forum with current durability tests on scopes.
I’m interested in the hunting version from apex optic once it becomes available

Dammit I am lookin forward to that fictional beer and wings! lol.

Think we all need to hit the range first though and see how rubber meets road. 8" gongs to 400 yards oughtta do haha

An 8" gong at an unknown distance, between 3-400 yards, "supported", in under 5 seconds...right?
That would make for a very safe gong.

A VX-3 with a turret works... sometimes, they should be checked. Higher end is better than lower.

You’d think so (higher end) but apparently not. If leupold still offered a 6x mark4 or if you could easily get swfa in Canada.

That’s what I don’t get leupold knows how and has in the past build durable scopes that track and hold zero “fixed power mark 4 and the ultras”

Scope are a whole different discussion, really. The higher end is better than lower, was a fairly general statement. A 30 year old Bushnell won't track as well as new NF, for instance.
Friction clicks, vs geared, and so on...
Leupold has lost a pile of market share, forgetting what made them good in the first place.

This is why I'm more into a BDC type of reticle than dialing. Assuming you shoot those ranges and make sure...

Looking forward to trying the Leupold Tri MOA setup. If it does what its supposed to (subtensions are accurate), good enough for me. No need to touch the knobs.

I'm guessing about as safe as if people are dialling for an unknown distance lol

Well... without the 5 second thing, as it was never mentioned for dialing... that distance wouldn't be unknown at all, which would make for a very unsafe gong,
A fella doesn't generally dial for an unknown distance....

It takes effort to try and understand anything... it takes much less effort to sling spew.
The weeds started with a 5 second window being mentioned, and the fact that the whole point of MPBR is to cover the widest range of distance available, via holdover only, and acknowledges that distance is a variable.
There shouldn't be much discussion that a dialed zero, at a known distance, would be more accurate than a holdover, at a guessed distance, and yet that seems exactly where it's at.
There is a distance at which a guess and a holdover is certainly good enough, and works just fine for most. Get beyond that distance, and the errors compound quickly. That distance is different for everyone.
300 to 400 yards? With a guessed distance and guessed holdover, in a hurry, and offhand? C'mon man...That's a stretch.

There isn't much that is more accurate, or versatile, than a rifle zeroed at 100 yards, with a turret, so that zero can be set to any distance, at anytime. That should make sense to anyone that has shot one?

Once again you’re talking from the bronze star. Trying to relate ‘the more accurate method’ to something where that factor is completely irrelevant and speed trumps the accurate variable. General firearms and factory ammo can deliver on these ranges. The target sniper set ups sub moa don’t start making a difference until we’ll past the distances discussed here so keep chirpin rookie. You say ‘read more’ how bout you go ‘kill more’, you’ll see your extra half minute or minute isn’t worth the squeeze and will enjoy the sight of yet another tag remaining in your pocket. Keep trying to slam those who figured this out long ago because you’ve been reading instead of shooting at critters, it’s working out well for you. How’s them walls and freezer lookin? Empty?

Is it any wonder why blakeyboy was banned from the alberta outdoorsmen forum? This is as good as any of his posts ever get lol..

Nice spew... and more guessing... keep it up. It's all you have.

Takes a minute to develop a trust with a dial set up, return to zero, stints in the safe followed by pre season checks, paying close attention on data collection days(dialling), but you can have both just in case. i have never had issues with leupolds from vxIII upward, or fxII fixed with custom turrets installed etc., those a-holes on rokslide even had me worried about my Trijicon accupoint duplex with all that rtz talk on dialling scopes that weren’t swfa or nightforce etc. so I grabbed a mil-dot version of my scope to play with just in case, but with time and dialling and safe stints and zero checks etc I can confirm the accupoint 3-9’s rtz nuts on, so I can dial with the speed dial turret from Kenton to my hearts content and the kids and I have all done well with it, but now also have the mildot solution too and can reference that and it does offer another 100 yards of playtime on my rig so why not, it’s not intrusive so you can’t go wrong duplex or mil dot duplex and dial or reticle the longer stuff, you could do same with Leupold and lr duplex reticle...it’s a great reticle so get it and cds-zl and if rtz trust is an issue you can reticle instead

Everybody else is an a-hole but you, right?

Good to hear! In that case, I could definitely dig a LR Duplex and having the turrets actually function for the best of both worlds lol. I'm a "set it and forget it" kinda guy so I wouldn't know, but yeah...sure read a lot about Leupolds and their tracking problems. Real or imagined.

Always kinda wondered if it wasn't just one of those internet things everyone repeats and makes "true" without firsthand knowledge?

Do you ever post outside of looking for a window to gack spew(stole that from Rman) on me specifically? Always the same thing you gack. You’re like that kid around a fight that jumps around looking for that cheap shot. Why don’t you ever say why I got banned from abo? Along with half the key members of that communist forum? How come man? Don’t worry, the mods are onto you bro, and every time you do this and I explain that it was surrounding the plandemic and trying to save as many from making poor decisions as possible around a certain experimental fauci ouchie...you know...when you know of evil you must stand against it? Even if it jeopardizes your membership to an Internet forum? Lmfao....easy trade bro, if I helped one soul...worth it everyday that ends in y and twice on sundays. You’re a real piece of work and great contributor. Que the mods again. And before this string gets deleted why don’t you say next time why I got banned from the commie forum or I’ll have to keep exposing your pathetic gang up attempts. I wear that banning proudly. Get that through your shallow skull.

So what’s the deal? Did you argue just as hard the other way and have some sort of narcissistic issue with me since you ended up on the wrong side of it? What’s your handle on abo? Whatever your issues are with me are just your issues Fyi, so may as well face them sooner rather than later or you’ll deal with repeated uncomfortable exchanges with me, who did everything he could for humanity through that horsh1t. Keep on chirpin bud but you’re in way over your head here. We can get the focus put on you to find out why you have this weird obsession and beef with me. It’s like I got a stalker. Not really taking it as a compliment though, whatever your issues are they definitely yours to work out. Wish you the best.

No, you’re making assumptions, being able to meet an a-hole at his level is an art. Doesn’t really make me one. But I won’t be offended if people mistake me for one lol. You however...crystal clear.

Ps, I like those a-holes on rokslide, that was tongue in cheek, even they could prolly tell that was a loving ‘a-hole’ reference lol. You sure got riled up though.

Oh there’s definitely a business plan going on there, gotta be able to read through the lines, and whenever possible figure it out yourself. Some great dudes and experience there also but it gets thick at times on the business agenda. Nothing gives you confidence more than your own set up and proving over time.
