So I was looking for something that I could throw into my jeep and not worry about it. Something that was less than $1000, had open sights, decent calibre, and shorter barrel; In essence a Scout Rifle.

My problem was I don't like scout scopes, so the only way to mount an optic to this Savage 110 Scout is to turn a cantilever mount backwards. Yes I could have mounted a normal rail to the receiver but that requires removing the rear sight and I wanted the sights left on a backup in case something happened to the scope.

So this is what I came up with, a Savage 110 Scout in 308 with a Bushnell 1-6 power illuminated scope on top.

And now with the fixed riser comb your irons are not remotely useful if you have a somewhat normal facial structure. The backwards mount to get around all of this is a bit silly, the peep is not very robust itself and you would be better served just using a good scope and mounting system rather than worrying about backups. You’d be better served with a low mounted dot on the rail with a quick release tab. Are you carrying a wrench and stock comb with the rifle for when the scope fails and you want to use your irons?

Tough crowd!
If it works for you fly at ‘er! There’s a reason I don’t show my scoped Rasheed in public…it looks worse than your pallets but it works for me…pop rivets and all!!!

In a lifetime of hunting with scoped rifles I never had a scope failure that spoiled a hunt. I never bought junk either.

I hate being negative about you project but if a “Jeep gun” is anything like what we call a truck gun then it will get bounced around quite a bit and occasionally need to be used in a hurry. I’d have little faith in the durability of that scope mount and the muzzle brake would have to go, too much muzzle blast for a rifle you may have to use without muffs some time.

I think rifles around there are understood as a normal occurrence.

Well then, that's a good thing.
I remember only a few years back when the area I live in wasn't infiltrated by Liberal-voting urbanites who despised sportsmen and the shooting community in general.

Looks like a nice rifle to be using as a truck gun as many truck guns are fairly cheap with no great value if the are damaged, become rusted , or are stolen ; maybe a " Jeep " gun is a few steps up from a truck gun as I would feel pretty bad if a 1000 dollar firearm was damaged , or stolen from my vehicle .

the scope setup is fine
that mount is made to withstand substantial recoil
what's missing is a couple of Jeep decals

and yes, Jeeps are expensive when they are taken where no truck can go

JEEP is an acronym. "Just Empty Every Pocket"
Ridiculous initial price, and a money pit to follow.
The mount looks "iffy" to me.

Definitely not my first choice for a mount.

I’d put a scout scope on, if you pas through PG I’ll give you a 2x7 scout to try it out.
