Best 5.56 rifle right now?

I think you have to go with good stories. The Templar is heavy but most range reports I’ve read and guys who’ve used them at matches have good things to say. The Stirling is probably better but a bit pricier. All the other 180 based guns have reports of issues.

When looking at prices, keep in mind that higher production numbers and sales result in lower prices. I doubt many are buying the Templar and Sterling.

I have 2 BCL rifles and had smallish issues but BCL, even without Carrie went above and beyond to help me and solve them.

To me, that's important, I did not hear a lot of good support reviews about your preferred rifles, you say they don't have any issues, but IF, you are stuck.

For the recreational shooter who is shooting maybe a few hundred rounds per year, money is an issue too. If I shoot 5K rounds per year, the cost of ammo outweighs the cost of the product, so I will aim for the best rifle there is.

Maybe the best field rifle in a war is the CZ Bren 2 but as I mentioned before (which Bartok5 did NOT read), my comment about accuracy does come from youtube videos and NOT from a poster here, which he of course discredited right away since only he can be right (as usual).

He also made some comment about the VZ58 and "you can't mount an optic on it", which he clearly gathered from some Internet discussion, comparing the Bren2 and the VZ58 but NOT from owning one. Just don't comment if you have no clue, please.

I remember a while ago I sent a PM to Bartok5, a friendly one, he did not even reply, so all the credit he deserves serving our country and got wounded, go right out the window when you act like a "I know all" kind of person.

There was also a post a while ago where I questioned his integrity, he had a rifle listed on the EE and the ad says "only 200 rounds", but he posted before that he shot it 4 to 500 hundreds.

He called me out on that as if it is no big deal. Maybe not for him but for the buyer sure is.

Just setting the record straight.

I'm buying the B&T APC223. :) That's the one I like from what's available in Canada, but it's bloody expensive and most people cannot drop $5k on a rifle. I've seen some G36s as well, we sold the one we had.

IWI has a few good options as well.

Also depends where a guy is looking. Say if these were side by side. Anyone have this experience and a reason why one is better than the other outside of cost?

I happen to own both, so at the risk of triggering Frizzydamsel (yet again) with my mere presence on CGN, I will offer that in terms of performance (reliability and practical accuracy) I see very little to set the two apart. Where they differ the most is in their unit weight. The Bren 2's designers evidently realized that military firearms tend to get carried much more than they are ever fired in anger, so they went with a lightweight design making use of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer for certain major components and a pencil-weight (but CHF) Barrel. The B+T designers on the other hand, went with a heavier medium-weight Barrel on the APC 223. The weight difference is substantial between the two systems and is what stands out between the two to me. If you consider weight as part of ergonomics, then the Bren 2 has a distinct advantage in that department with not only its lighter weight, but also its controls layout with three Bolt Release options (Side Bolt Catch, Charging Handle, Trigger-Guard Bolt Catch), a much lighter Change Lever throw, and so forth. The ergonomic differences are even more pronounced between the older non-Pro APC223 and the Bren 2 (eg. reciprocating Charging Handle and fixed Pistol Grip on the APC).

Frizithandle, your ongoing efforts to discredit me when I have done nothing to initiate or provoke such behaviour is honestly baffling. To accuse me of negative behaviours on this discussion forum when you yourself are concurrently indulging in a direct and completely unsubstantiated campaign of character assassination against me, is completely puzzling (no to mention irrational) behaviour. I suspect that you probably cannot see the sad irony between what you purport to preach and what you actually say in your own posts, but trust me here - there is a fundamental disconnect. You are the aggressor here, not me. You come across like some jilted junior-high crush-case, with an axe to grind because I supposedly spurned some ancient PM of yours. Sorry, I guess your message just didn't resonate with me at the time. More likely however, it probably just got lost in the shuffle as I get quite a few PMs. In any case, I hope that you can soon move on with your life. In my previous post I offered to bury the hatchet, but you conotinue to double-down in the misguided expectation that it will somehow irk me. Newsflash - I find your gross mischaracterizations of my personality to be truly funny (albeit in a pathetic way), not the least bit annoying. So, if you won't simply cease and desist you are going to really have to up your game. So far it isn't working on me, and judging by some of the recent comments you are only managing to alienate your fellow CGNers. Why not quit while you are still treading water? Your recent comments cause me genuine concern for your state of mental health, not to mention your maturity level. Perhaps you could benefit from some counselling.... just saying.

Sorry to keep beating this dead horse, but are you guys mostly good with the Siberian? On the r/canadaguns sub reddit everybody trashes the Siberian and there are horror stories of the gas block breaking right outta the gate.

Should I pull the trigger on it and hope for the best?

I’ve very happy with my Siberian, it has 1000 rds and two 3 gun matches without issue.

I think I have to put Bartok on my ignore list. That guy is a mess.

I encourage you do do so. If more people used the Ignore function to avoid those who trigger their negative emotions, CGN would be a much more positive and enjoyable experience for some. You skip me, and I'll return the favour. Buh-bye!!

This novel you just wrote seems to suggest otherwise.

Take the internet less personally dude. It'll do wonders for your blood pressure.

Just saying.

My blood pressure is A-OK, but thanks for the concern. I wrote what I wrote because I find Fritzhanel's aggressive behaviour and personal fixation upon me to be truly bizarre (and yes, mildly troubling). I mean, who goes to the trouble of tracking someone else's round-counts in an effort to find inconsistencies? Or suggests that a single, unanswered Personal Message (for unknown reasons) is automatically reason to discount my military service, my being seriously Wounded In Action, my time on CGN, and who knows whatever else? Seriously, think about it. If you don't answer one of that guy's PMs, he launches a personal scorched-earth campaign of character assassination? This is not the reasonable reaction of someone with a firm grasp on reality. I never gave the guy a second thought until he started publicly attacking me for no apparent reason.

So who and exactly what is the problem here? Perhaps Fritzhanel will shed some light on his motivations, ideally without devolving into another shopping list of my supposed personal slights, transgressions and illicit acts. He apparently doesn't like me, and i now heartily return the sentiment. But just because somebody rubs me the wrong way, I don't stalk them and launch a campaign of public character assassination, Nor would I ever go so far as to suggest an unanswered PM is cause to discount 34 years of someone's service to Canada and the life-altering wounds that they suffer as a result. Fritzhanel? Apparently not so much...

My 2cents ….

Best semi ? X95 .. cons: not lefty friendly. (You will eat brass in the teeth and chin if you shoot lefty(unless you buy the left hand bolt)

Type 97 - reliable , but horrible safety, and can be picky about mags. (Again not lefty friendly, and you will eat brass)

B&T - good to go, but very expensive

Keltec - SU16 has terrible accuracy when the barrel is hot, it is a cheap piece of crap.
Not a bad platform for the farm, or occasional gopher hunt, etc, but not made for volume fire, and I wouldn’t trust my life with it.

@Bartok5 & @fritzhanzel : I see you guys have your differences and probably do not want to “shake hands and move on” , but guys, we’re all SHARING THIS FORUM.
Leave the personal beefs out of this discussion.
I don’t know who “fired the first shot” , but let’s just get along?
We all make mistakes and we all talk #### sometimes.. it’s good advice not to take the internet so seriously.
It’s none of my business what your beefing about, but let’s just play nice! ;)

I’ve very happy with my Siberian, it has 1000 rds and two 3 gun matches without issue.

Sounds good to me, thanks.

I wonder if they'll ever get the FDE type in stock again, but a part of me thinks maybe the black ones fixed some of the issues that plagued the first batch.

Thanks again though, I think I'll get the Siberian and hope for the best.
