anyone have any time behind the 556? been waiting on reviews before i pull the trigger on one.

I’ve got about 300 rounds through my platinum edition with the top charging handle. I’m very happy with the handling and ergos of the rifle. Weight is light and well balanced, very easy to control.

Fit and finish is great with no machining marks. Some owners have reported that they have excessive play in their handguard, but mine is tight as a drum. Mine arrived with the right side bolt release missing and a blemished charging handle (due to Canada Post), but Lockhart jumped up to fix that for me very quickly.

One thing to be aware of, is the known issue with the bolt carrier. It’s not beefy enough. Mine cracked between 200-300 rounds. A replacement gen2 carrier is coming.

Otherwise, I’ve had no malfunctions even with a cracked carrier. It does not seem to like my MFT pistol mags loaded to 10 on a closed bolt but that’s more mag related.

Some things I wish were better:

- the milspec stock it comes with leaves a lot to be desired, even for milspec. I swapped with my M&P15

- handguard design. While I understand they wanted to make it quick detach, a more conventional and solid design would be better. You can swap for an AR handguard though.

- there is a sharp edge where the trigger guard meets the pistol grip that is a little annoying when doing mag changes and manipulating the safety.

- bolt carrier design.

Overall, I think it’s a great rifle with a few quirks. It’s the closest we’ll get to an AR and hopefully just as reliable once the carrier gets sorted.

There's a couple of videos on YouTube, amateur, non-GunTuber "first impression" sort of things. Nothing high round count. My overall impression is that people like the fit and finish, operation and function, but the first gen BCG will eventually crack and hopefully getting the replacement fixes the issue.

Whats the point of the right hand bolt release design when it cannot even be reached with the right fore finger unless you break your purchase on the grip. I guess thats one way to get you to pay extra for the ambi release. Goofy

Because it’s not for you, it’s for left handed shooters

What makes you think the bolt will crack?

For what its worth my finger can reach it. But the tab should be extended back another cm atleast to make it easier.

Did anyone else find that the safety detent from a milspec lower parts kit leaves the safety a bit loose? Works perfect while using a Lockhart detent.

I ordered mine with the TriggerTech safety as it was on sale, it felt fine in mine, I just replaced it with a Radian Talon from another rifle I had and its not loose either, maybe your detent is bad/worn?

It was a brand new BCM safety detent. Certainly shouldn't be worn.
Random bad luck I guess.

Took mine out for the first round of the break in, after sighting it in this is 20rounds basically in the same hole, impressed with mine so far
