Tick and Lyme Disease Awareness

I took two ticks off my dog this am after his run. It’s 8C here today & ticks are seeking…

Anyone bear baiting or turkey hunting, would be wise to treat their clothes with permethrin.

Ticks came out in Dryden last week, back snowing again so will see.

That’s certainly bad news to hear of ticks in Dryden. We’ve been moose hunting in the Dryden to Ignace area for a number of years now and never seen any ticks. My hunting clothes are sprayed with permethrin so that accounts for me but my hunting partners haven’t noticed any. It is later in the year though but not too late as we archery hunt.

I’ve had Lyme disease once and won’t go near the bush without sprayed clothing…

Lots in the bush here, really bad turtle river/white otter area. If you go north pickle lk, souix look out none really (I’m sure this will change in the coming years) Most of them are wood ticks which are just a like mosquitoes and black flies. Deer ticks have been found the last few years around town that are positive for lime.

They seem to be continually migrating north -40 doesn’t kill em so

That’s a bugger for sure (no pun intended), I thought your winters were harsh enough to keep them at bay but I guess not…

Climate change may not be true, but the fact that tics are moving further north every year is.

I lived in Ottawa 'till '95, not a tic in sight back then.

Now I'm 350 miles north of, and they're putting a foothold in here, now.

Can’t get this in Onterible but this stuff is the ####!

Spray your clothing and or gear before turkey season it will last for up to 6 washes. Been using it for years, yet to have tic on me.
I get them on me walking in the grass at work but never while hunting.

Ways around it, pretty much any feed/farm store will have animal spray with permethrin in it. Spray your clothing while not wearing it and you’ll be fine

The horse fly spray princess auto sells has it as well. Unfortunately it’s scented so you might not want to use it on hunting clothes but otherwise

Pulled three ticks off my pants this afternoon while on a casual walk on an ATV trail in the Renfrew area that had very little brush/grass.

My wild turkey gear will be getting its annual permethrin dose tomorrow.
