22 for Deer

So a shot that hits lungs a bit far back with a 22 rimfire is the same as a 243, a 308 etc? Given what bigger/more powerful rounds can do, seems their "good shot" describes a circle of about 6 inches in diameter. Perhaps a bit bigger. Is the same true for the 22?

What about high shoulder?

And what is this "smack"? How is it defined? How does a larger bullet that opens to much larger diameters with more energy behind it creating less "smack" it seems quite magical.

A bad shot is a bad shot.

Smack is defined as effect of smacking things.

Go and shoot some stuff with a 22 with good hollowpoints and a PCC, you'll see.

In many cases the LR and WMR have 300-800 fps more velocity than the 9mm.

The ban on 22's is not an evidence based policy.

How far back are we going here Mig?
Gots some prices here if you’re interested from 1910.
I wasn’t there but my Grandfather was and he left this little catalog to me.
Your favourite 22 LR with hollow points 35 grain bullets sold for 8.00 /thousand.
25 Stevens sold for 14.00 thousand with 65 grain bullets.
32 Long with 90 grain bullets sold at 11.50 thousand.
The 44 “flat” for the Henry and 1866 sold for 24.00 per flat of 1000 rounds.
All rimfire rounds.

25-20’s were 16.00 /1000
30-06 at 55.00 / 1000
Colt 45 22.00/1000
Don’t think you theory’s hold much water if indeed any.

My father would tell stories. Born 1925, raised in Northern Alberta. The government called it "relief", which amounted to $6 for a family of 11. Bought things like thread or baking powder. Sent out with two 22shorts, come back with two squirrels worth 5cents/hide plus stew pot. Switch if you missed.

The big rifle was a 1873 in 44-40, until they were thrilled to get a surplus 303. Moose hung in the barn over winter, take a saw cut a chunk of frozen meat off for supper.

Puts $14/thousand into perspective.

Neither is your opinion on why it was banned. Considering your complete lack of proof, any other logical hypothesis is just as strong as yours.

Your opinion that a 22lr bullet going a few hundred fps faster is more lethal than a .355 cal bullet that is going to expand to likely more than .60" is also not evidence based, at all.

The wound track in animals are miniscule. The wound tracks in gel are miniscule. The argument defies the very laws of physics. 22lr is simply too slow for velocity to mean much, because it isn't creating any hydrostatic shock at all.

22 WMR is better in that regard....but the volume of the cylinder of tissue it destroys is still going to be much less than that destroyed by a bullet that expands to nearly 3/4 inch.

Sorry, thems just facts. No 22lr rimfire is going to do this. Maybe they penetrate more, but they make eenie weenie little wound tracks, especially the long rifle lol

Oh, and I ask again: Does a 243, 308 or 30-06 give you MORE leeway for a "bad shot" than a 22 rimfire? Are there no shots that are good shots with a bigger cartridge that are NOT good shots with the rimfire?

We all know which is why you avoid it lol.

Sounds pretty familiar.

My old man was born in '48 in a farmhouse with a dirt floor, via a midwife. Veggies were grown, bread was made from large sacks of flour when one could make a trip of town and get one. Meant dealing with the Indian Agent. And if you wanted meat, you were hunting.

Everything the Govt does is evidence based.

Sounds about as ridiculous as saying "everything they do is always bad, every single time" to me. Why look at anything on a case by case basis and evaulate it and ask for proof? Extra work! Pfffft critical thinking....

Let's just invalidate everything all at once and say its all no good :)

"Is a bad shot with a 22lr or magnum necessarily a bad shot if a 30-06 hits in the same place?"

"Hey man...Indian Agents okay? Covid vaccines! Who you gonna trust, me or them? Fish and game had NOTHING to do with either of those, but goverment man, you some kinda sheep?"

Name one thing the Govt got right?

Fact is, the ban on 22 Rimfires was a Rockblock thrown up to keep undesirables from Hunting and that was the motivation.

And we continue to pivot away from questions like "is a bad shot from a 30-06 really the same as a bad shot from a 22?"

So a govt has never got anything right, ever, in its existence? Not Federally, not provincially, ever? The depths you're sinking to here to defend a ridiculous idea is honestly surprising.

There is no fact here. Only your theory. You don't have a single shred of proof and you're willing to lower yourself to absolute absurdity to protect that. Never saw the like of it, even here lol.

No one agrees with you, and yet you persist.

And around and around we go. Mig is just throwing poo at the wall to see if it will stick. No evidence to back his claims.

This fishing trip is over.
