Never had one. Won’t go out of my way to find one either. I can overload a standard cartridge just as easy. No more Ackleysizing for this nutter.
I am the proud owner of a 280 AI barreled action. I had Ron Smith of Innisfail, Alberta make me a 26 " SS barrel and Dave Henry of D. Henry Gunmakers in Bentley, Alberta did the chambering and threading for me.
I built it on a Remington 700 BDL action, it was a 30-06 originally. My stock is coming from a fellow CGN'er and I have a nice set of Burris Signature series rings and bases to go on her. To top it of will be a Leupold VX II 3x9-50.
I think this thing will be a real tack driver and it should have the ballistics of a 7mm Mag.
If anyone else is shooting the 280 AI I'd be interested in chatting about some of the reloads you have experimented with.
Cheers
280AI is prob the undisputed “ Best Ackley Improved cartridge ever “ ! No forming nessacary just shoot reg 280Rem or 280AI ammo and it does have a 100 -150 fps advantage over a reg 280 Rem with Handloads Also much better cartridge as it case stretches less . It’s The BEST cartridge of the 270-280-30-06 Family BUT that’s JMHO !Lol. RJ
REM M700 Mtn Rifle 280 Rem 22 “
HVA 1900 Custom Build 280AI 24 “
No, the most popular. Best Ackley Improved cartridge would be the 250-3000 IMO. It certainly gains the most over the base case. And yes, Ive owned quite a few Ackley's, Gibbs, RCBS Improveds, etc. - dan
Yup ! Yours is just like mine Dan - “ JMHO “ lol.. RJ
I shoot it. Because it's about the max I can handle without pain.
My kimber stainless select in .280ai shoots factory 140gr accubond .280 rem ammo into one ragged hole. It has accounted for a few moose and bears in the past few years.
Sadly due to a new business, house , being newly married and no leh this year it'll probably be parked for a while.
Back on topic: the 280ai doesn't do Anything that others won't do, but it does it while shooting very flat, while launcing a reasonably weighted projectile which usually has a higher than average bc, and does this with manageable recoil in a light handy platform
Its biggest appeal to me is it fits in a Kimber 84L.![]()
Yes
put the 2 together and , dynomite , slim, lite weight , accurate and dependable

That was my thought's as well. I found a good price on a kimber mountain ascent 270 so I went with that and have no complaints with it. I already had a kimber montana 7wsm. If kimber ever chambered for the 284win I'de be all over it.
BUDDY has a Kimber Mountain Ascent in 284 Win. It was a 280 AI but it got rechambered . Seems like a SILLY thing to do as the 280AI outperforms the 284W . RJ
