A place to talk about Milsurp Prohibs that need to find a home!

Sent you a PM on this.

The lab takes longer than you think
I had some guns there for a few years and forgot
about them!
I thought they decided to keep them and not say so
But, the y were sent to the local Detachment for
pick up
Have real nice seals cabled to the guns
Still on them, since they can't go anywhere

Most are 12.2 and a couple are 12.3
If you actually want to sell the stuff, you have to: right from the begining, advise which classification each gun is, where and who it can be purchased from, and eventually a price.
Trying to get information here is worse than pulling teeth without anesthetic.

Look at exporting to a US auction house. I recommend Rock Island. They can give estimate of value. A broker can arrange the export.

Not possible for 12(2) or 12(3) full/select-fire or converted automatics. Under the US Gun Control Act of 1968, no more foreign machineguns may enter the US market. And as far as the converted to semi-autos are concerned, the US Law is that "once a machinegun, always a machinegun, even if "deactivated"/DEWATed. So no MG receivers can go Stateside for auction or sale to US citizens. I don't know about museums, but I suspect that most in the US have all that they need, just like in Canada for the most part (aside from recent start-ups). Parts might be good to go, although my understanding is that Barrels cannot accompany parts kits unless the BATF has amended that ruling from a number of years ago.

I bought a couple of 12.3 from switzers last year. the RCMP did nothing for a year and then asked for more photos on the conversion. Got them a couple weeks after they got the photos

This attitude by the RCMP "lab" is precisely why I no longer purchase any 12(3) firearms. The RCMP and the lab-rats know exactly what they are doing in terms of actively and with forethought and malice, discouraging duly licensed owners from continuing to buy and sell those prohibited firearms by imposing a ridiculous and completely unwarranted delay in the processing of transfers. It is total BS, and they know it. No Federal organization is so busy that their workload is back-logged for well over a year. It is entirely deliberate.

I have long wanted a 12.3 MP40 but can't bring myself to spend the money to then have the gun sit in the RCMP lab for several years. Seriously it'd be more satisfying to just staple the cash to the wall. At least then I could actually see it.

I had one. It was pretty cool, I must say. Sold it off to an admirer of most things WW2 German (not a neo-you-know-what), along with my other 12(3) WW2 SMGs - an M1A1 TSMG, Reising M50, PPSh-41, and one or two others. The MP-40 eventually ended up in PEI, IIRC. No idea what they'd sell for nowadays, but I reckon with the unknown wait to take possession, it simply wouldn't be worth it to me. I've had that "fix" and have many, somewhat more modern PCCs/SMGs to keep me occupied.

Well, a real MP40 would really go well with my Sten and Grease Gun. :)

I did notice that a dewat Grease Gun recently sold for double what I paid for mine ... live.

I did speak to the shop about the 12.2 MP40 above and unfortunately the asking price is considerably more than what I was interested in paying. Some lucky SOB with much deeper pockets than me is gonna end up w a really cool SMG. :(

What was the ask? I note the unusually high prices these days for such things, and believe that that many of the elderly folks (or estates) looking to cash out in their "golden years' are expecting to receive FAR too much for their keepsake MGs. Some mistakenly believe that US pricing applies, which is definitely NOT the case North of the border due to our completely different approach to such things. Reality is going to have to kick in at some point if those firearms are ever going to sell either dead or alive....

$5000 for the MP40

I'd be interested to know where the estate got their valuations from? I've talked to a number of people in the know and everyone thinks $5k is considerably too high for an MP40. Thats not to say it won't sell for that, only that it seems to be a pretty high price for an item with an extremely limited pool of potential purchasers.

$4000 for a deactivated one so I guess they figure a live one is worth more? I dunno.

LOL, someone doesn't understand the supply and demand relationship. Dewats are always more expensive because the demand is 100x larger. Not to mention the seller has to pay for the cost of the work to dewat the thing.

I'm here when they figure out the above and come to their senses.
