Lot of elg (moose) killed with the 6.5 in Scandinavian countries. It is certainly capable of the job with the right bullets. - dan

Was thinking more about potential concerns than overall whether or not it can....they've all got limitations! If I was investing a lot in a hunt and the only opportunity might be big Bullwinkle at 300 yards and a tough angle shot, might not be my go-to, but that isn't my situation/circumstance.
With Reloder 26, you can exceed 3000 fps with 140's as well.

Equivalent to the 260 Rem, but with more history.
It's main disadvantage is that you require a Standard Action for it, but that's also an advantage as that allows you to seat the bullets out farther for a bit of extra capacity.

I'm pretty sure the one I was looking at is a Santa Barbara action from Spain. It's a good looking rifle though, just needs a new recoil pad and probably some cleaning.

That is the most common commercial action used in PH's. They are nice rifles. - dan

The stuff is as expensive, if not more than .303 and 8mm Mauser.
What components do you even use to reload it?

Nice home for the 6.5x55. And absolutely, it’s a coyote to moose cartridge. A very good mountain cartridge, too.
I load the speer 90gr tnt for paper with my sporterized m96. It's a nice light fun shooter at 50 and 100 and also along with the lesser recoil the 90gr tnt is inexpensive compared to the heavier options out there which works fine for me because my m96 doesn't get used in the field
Brass, primers, powder, bullets. In my case Rem, Win and Norma brass, Win LR primers, RL22 powder, and 140 gr Nosler bullets. Works well, to date. - dan
I haven't seen any 6.5mm Hornady interlock bullet praised for its performance on game. I'm sure some have had some success with one, but it is definitely not a premium game bullet. I'd go the extra dollars and use a Nosler 130-gr. Accubond or a 125-gr. Nosler Partition if you want to stay in that weight range with your 6.5x55. Weight retention will be better than with the Hornady.
The kid has a draw moose tag and will use an old Mauser that’s a favourite of mine. I can’t wait to see the results, he’s seemingly indifferent. Not that I’d wish my gun loonyism on anyone haha. 160 grain woodleigh over compressed H1000. I didn’t strap the magnetospeed on as it’s full stocked but 2” high at 100 is 6” low at 300 yards. I fell like it will take a lot of moose to stop this bullet, had pass throughs on a couple bears.
