The next cartridge you would like Hornady to develop

Don’t put it all on hornady. Lots of companies make components and loaded rounds. Hornady bullets are probably the most available over the past 10 years.
 
The last 'new cartridge' that did interest me is the .480Ruger.

I have zero interest in any new cartridges, particularly small cal whizz-bang, uber-fast things that demand wind gauges, turrets and ballistic calculators.

Only my $0.02.
 
Shortened 300PRC to fit in short action. Performance between 308 and 300wsm? Would be perfect with 168-178gr.

Thanks for the pointer. Sometimes a pity when the wrong guys come out with a good concept which is then not properly promoted. I am quite sure the 300 RCM ammo nor rifles are available in any of our gun shops.

It's funny, even on the Hornady podcast they lament the demise of the .300 RCM but that is the risk you take when you put a manufacturer in the name - limited appeal to their competitors. No doubt about it the .300 RCM easily matches hot .30-06 loads in a short action. 180 grain bullets at 2850fps sounds pretty good to me. But neck it down to 6.5 and call it the PRC for Precision Rifle Cartridge and it's pure hotness

It's similar to the original .30 TC Hornady made for Thompson Center. No splash, all flop. Neck it down to 6.5 and give it a nice non-specific name like Creedmoor and lookout!
 
I didn’t catch the drama when he left, but it’s interesting we have some of the trolling that we do and yet Douglas got the boot. Should give him a call and encourage a return. I’m sure it’s been long enough to reset whatever wrongs occurred, he was able to contribute more to the hunting discussions than many of us.
 
I'm quite content with all the cartridges we have now. Case-in-point, let's subtract the latest innovative ones from the past 20 years, predecessors have us covered from mice to moose. I love the cartridges from 1892 to 1965, the rest I can leave.;)

Most everything mentioned on this entire thread has been done, to plus or minus 50 fps.

What is really required is a longer action, in order to take advantage of the existing cartridges. Yes, there are 4" plus action lengths available, however, they are set up for the largest case diameters. A stretched Rem 700 Long action, keeping that same diameter would be about right. Don't like Rem? Sub your favorite maker.
4.00" to 4.25" would be ideal, with bottom metal and magazines to match.
