Best way to tear down 1000 rounds of 308

Ganderite, does that handy little puller leave a compression ring on the bullet??? I've never seen one like it before. Sure would have came in handy when I pulled 5k of Norwegian 8x63 projectiles.

No. it does not. It is/was made by Lachmiller. I have not seen one for sale in the last 20 years. An email to them would be a good start.

Internet mostly agrees Lachmiller’s reloading business was subsumed by RCBS decades ago. Too bad, that looks like a great tool, better than the other options except maybe the dedicated Frankford tool

Yup, I looked around for a few hours and agree. That's a great looking device and without proper tools, extremely difficult to duplicate at home.

Lucky Ganderite for having one.

Lucky me when I get it in the mail. Thanx very much it will get a lot of use and maybe, I can determine a way to make more???

Anyone who doesn't have a collet bullet puller is probably still new to the game. Not picking on the newbies but everyone pulls apart rounds for one reason or another.

his is blazing fast. It screws into the press. Round is stroked up, pushing bullet throught he fingers. On the down stroke, bullet stays in place, he next round pops it out the top. I used one of these to pull several hundred thousand rounds of308.

I have a few of these. They work well. I have two styles. One with threads that screws into the top of the press and without threads

Collet pullers work very well for most handloads if enough area is left to grip below the ogive.

I've come across many factory rounds as well as surplus military rounds that don't have enough gripping area above the rim of the case to hold onto the bullet

How is the one without threads used?

From the pic, I would say you put the cartridge into the case head holder on the mandrel and bring it up through the frame, then use finger pressure to push it down onto the bullet until it stops and retract the mandrel

So I have a thousand rounds of reloaded 308, 155 FMJ loaded way too hot to be useful to me or anyone else. Any time saving tips for how to tear it apart for resale would be greatly appreciated.

I just found another one of those Lachmiller fast pull tools. My son and I used to pull about 20 rounds a minute with them. We had a little Lee single stage presss dedicated to pulling 308.

PM me your address and I will put it in the mail.

That is a kind offer, kudos to you. I looked online for one of those, haven't come across one yet. - dan

Ganderite is of the old school and a gentleman's gentleman.

I've had a few dealing with him and he's a class act all the way.

He's presently, successfully recovering from a stroke, I hope I haven't broken a confidence, but he's a fighter to the last breath and back at the range and taking care of his acreage/business.

I have a lot of respect for people like that who are constantly paying it forward.

When you purchase the sets from Forester or RCBS, they come with all of the collets needed to pull bullets from 17cal to 458cal.

I found that the Forester collets would hold the bullets better and not leave any marks.

Depending on how deep the bullets are seated, if there isn't enough of a "straight" area beneath the ogive, then the bullets have to be seated a few thou deeper, just enough to break the sealant and you might be able to get the collet to hold them long enough to extract.

Otherwise, you will have to break the sealant and go to an inertia puller.

I have been unable to find any collet puller from Forster that includes the collets.
Do you bave a link or part number?

Sorry thump but I don't. I transferred my set to a custom wooden box, built specially for the set by my grandson as a school project. That was appx 5 years ago.

The one you sent me works faster and better than any other I've got.

It grips every bullet I tried in it, even those that were seated right to the ogive.

Doesn't leave any marks or dents either.

You can pull each bullet out of the collet or just push it out with the next round. Very fast and efficient.

To bad they're discontinued.

PS I just went to the US Reloading/UK site and these fantastic pullers are supposed to be coming back into stock around the middle of December this year.
