Reviving an old thread…

I have one of those 452 Scout and I must say that I’m really impressed by the accuracy of this little rifle.

Had several 452’s over the last years and this one is the one I like the best.

I’m pretty sure it will outshoot my 452 American, even with only 1 action screw.

I should sell one but I just can’t do this.

The American shoots well and is such a beautiful sporter rifle but the Scout is really cool !
Maybe I should trade the American for another Ameeican but in another caliber…

Yup, figured its better to revive this thread for continuity. That Scout in Post #1 has a sibling, shown above. I've been away from shooting but I have more time to shoot now that I'm retired. I'm going to see how my two Scouts compare in accuracy, with the full size CZ452 Varmint and Style that have been really accurate even with plain bulk standard velocity Dynapoints in the past.

You mentioned Scouts have one action screw, while the American has two. Likewise the Varmint and Style have two screws, front and rear. The front screws are quite close to the receiver, but those front screws still don't allow the barrel to float fully. Perhaps the Scout's single screw can make it more accurate than 2 screw 452s. Remains to be seen when I go to a club with a rifle range.

Btw, the Boyd thumbhole was a take-off from a CZ455 and it had only one screw hole, and it was in wrong spot for the Scout. I epoxied a dowel into the old hole and drilled a new hole for the Scout's single action screw.

It's not unknown for owners to install a second action screw behind the trigger mechanism by either drilling and tapping an M6 hole in the bottom of the receiver, or better, welding an M6-threaded nut to the bottom of the receiver in the same position. I have been tempted...
I have three stocks that I use on my Scout: the factory stock, a CZ452 Trainer stock, and a Varmint stock. I prefer the Trainer stock because it's light.

I also saw some people on Rimfire Central that add a second action screw…
I really don’t feel that mine needs one, it shoots so well for what it is.

The 452 trainer stock is lighter that the scout ?

No, but I'm 6'2" and it fits better. Being beech, it is pretty light though.
Here are some pictures.
I replaced the front sight with a taller one so I could use an NECG aperture sight.

I ordered a spare front sight to serve as a base for the Williams ramp and blade. I drilled and tapped it for a set screw and shaped it to fit the barrel profile. Not much I can do with those little slots the original front sight hood attaches to.

I've got a spare rear sight base that I will eventually get around to shaping to serve as a slot filler for the rear sight. I've drilled and tapped it for a set screw, just need to round off the top, polish, and blue.

This is a great little rifle. It is a pity that the factory sights were of such poor quality. (They are the same parts as used on the "Farmer" model.)

I've kept all the original parts in case someone wants to return this to original condition, though this will be the last of my .22s I get rid of.

Your mods make the scout look like a classic European rifle. The 16” barrel looks perfectly proportioned on that trainer stock. Very well done!

Yup well done with the sights.

The factory sights are not the best but I use mine with a scope ( older Leupold fixed 6X AO ) so for me its not a big deal.

I was watching the whole thread and realized that I don’t have any picture of mine…

Thanks.
The stock was in pretty rough shape when I bought it here. The price was fair though. Refinishing it was fun. It’s not a beauty but it also means I don’t worry about it.
I usually scope it with a Leupold 2-7 x 28. Still nice and light.

Couldn't find a dedicated CZ452 Scout love thread. So this. Anybody who has anything to say, good or bad, pictures to post, shooting experiences, tips, anything......about this little 22 that can do practically anything a 22 should do, please share.

Thought for the day: If your lucky enough to own one of these, please do not ever sell it in a fit of insanity.:) You will regret it.

Here's mine. Snagged off the EE last year, after years of waiting.

Very sweet indeed!! How would you classify the barrel weight? I have a 452 Lux with the fanciest piece of walnut in my safe, and it is the nicest handling and smoothest functioning of all my rifles. I picked up an inexpensive Sun Optics compact 3 x 9 -40mm which let me mount it with low mounts just behind the sight for perfect eye relief/cheek-weld. Great general purpose rifle and stupid accurate too.

.....How would you classify the barrel weight?....

Ok I just measured the muzzles on a Scout 16.5" barrel and on the Style 22" barrel with a vernier caliper. Both muzzles were the same 1.44 cm diameter. To measure the taper, I didn't bother removing the actions from the stocks. On the Scout I measured off 10", from the muzzle to the front of the scope and barrel diameter was 1.72 cm at that point.

Then I did the same with the Style barrel. The diameter 10' from the muzzle was exactly the same 1.72 cm. Conclusion is that the both diameter and taper on both barrels are the same.

We can also conclude that the Scout barrel is basically the front 16.5" of the Style barrel. Both chambers are the same outside diameter but the Scout's is 2.00 cm long while the Style's a bit longer at 2.16 cm.

Hope that helps. Sorry for delayed reply, I was away.
