Ya as sillymike just posted, I think you are looking at a Lux model With the lighter barrel to get iron sights. My 452 is a Lux and I sometimes have a scope on it, but even the hight of the comb is designed around iron sights and not ideal with the scope. I was happy with a Lux for years, before I got my Varmint barrel model, but it is not designed for the long distance stuff you mentioned is your end goal. But hey, it is still going to be accurate with a scope and iron sights are fun

You are right! My bad! I must have looked at the wrong model. I will have to buy the scope right away then.

My Lux with a compact, low mounted scope which allowed me to keep the iron sight in place; just the right height, even with the "Hog Back" stock; it is deadly accurate:

On mine I have to run about a 1" cheek riser to get the cheek weld I like. That being said, I do love the stock!

Hmm. I guess I will go to a store and hold both lux and varmint to see which one I like better!

I don't know if it is relevant, but I'm kinda big so the weight of the gun might not be a huge problem.

I had a longer scope on it and I had a big, fat riser; hated the feel and the look.

If I knew back when I started my shooting hobby of what I know today, I would get a cz457 right away. This was a good advise from your friend. Cz457 is what I have now, but I got to 3xperiment with a few other rifles before I came to the conclusion of getting the cz457. You won't regret, and also there are so many things you can upgrade going forward.

I run a cz457 lux with irons. Great gun. I shoot eley subsonics and head shot a lot of grouse.
