Marlin 336 got bubbaed value

What you paid for your 94 is irrelevant. It's what it's worth now.
Sell it for $1000 to $1200 and buy a Marlin for $1000 to $1200.
Save the heartache of ever having to handle that misfit.

The guy that did that to a perfectly good rifle should be banned from owning one.

Disheartening to look at.

LOL, what drunk moron would pay more than $800 for a 1981 model 94

Guess this seller found one of those drunk morons.

Can't see the receiver clearly or the butt plate - trust me it's a post 64.

So I’m thinking of trading my my win 94 3030 manufactured in 81 for this new marlin plus a couple hundred cash.
Is this fixable??? lol JK
I guess I’ll have to find a new stock then strip everything and refinish

What value would give this new marlin ? 17 rounds down the pipe.View attachment 708430

This is my 94, it’s in excellent condition.View attachment 708432

What would posses someone to make those holes in that stock. it has a really nice checkering on the front and dark stain . I guess buddy had a few to many beers and a couple of fatties in him and wasn't thinking correctly . I'd keep the Winchester and say see you later to the marlin. tell him you'll give him $150 for it . fill the holes and use it .

He’s a buddy, he was going to get some moose carvings or something from a guy in Labrador, but something fell through.
The Winchester used to be his , back about 20 years ago, now he wants it back… lol
I believe I paid $600 for it.
I guess I could just sell it back to him,as I’m not that attached to it.
I know I could get 8 or 9 hundred for it, but I’m not to concerned with the few extra bucks.

Go for it, you'd have a marlin plus 300 bucks. I'd fix those holes myself, and it would probly look like crap, but whatever

It isn't pretty but at the right price, it could be an opportunity for a bit of a hybrid stock mod by inletting the wood between the holes further and mount a 6 round quiver. There are plenty of modernised/skeletonised stocks which traditionalists balk at but they are lighter and handy for field carry. Taking the idea and doing it hybrid mod wood stock could have a similar outcome.

An alternative could also be to get something like light weight HPG's Stock Cuff which covers up the lightening holes whilst also taking advantage of the weight savings. Or, if one is really adventurous, get the HPG Stock Cuff but also turn these holes into storage possibilities.

[Form can follow function... and in a similar way, if one ever works on biathlon rifles, one would regular see how much heavy bubba action goes into stock mods. ie take a $1000-2000 stock and literally drill, saw, file, glue into it]

About only difference that I would consider is that a Marlin 336 tends to be handier to mount a centered scope, than an earlier Win 94 - which tend to eject more or less straight up. I installed a rear aperture sight on my 1955 Win 94 - seems to be about correct for the limits of that 30-30 cartridge - so, would be not much in it for me to swap from Win 94 to Marlin 336 in 30-30.

Different strokes for different "folks"

Bubba's got a brand new bag!

Bottom line is the gun community needs to become more inclusive and accepting of different people's tastes..... as long as people aren't telling you what to do with your guns, we should let others do as they please with theirs. Brothers(and sisters and z's etc) in arms regardless.

y...
The only reason I’m even considering this is I just bought a pre 64 Model 94, so I don’t really need the other one

What? Heresy! This is Canadian Gun Nutz, not Canadian Gun Rationing. Buy as many as you can - while you can.
