This is pretty cool. Its an AR/FAL hybrid. Any chance these could be brought in? :D

New video:
Military arms channel just did a in-depth review of the rifle:

I know I am always critical. lol

The guts are probably similar in arrangement to the Beretta NARP.

I personally think those latches are there for the sake of getting people to draw connotation to FAL other than being the best mechanical and cost solution. The best solution is retained push pin if everything is machined aluminum anyways. Now the lower is blocky at the back ( like those first gen 180 clones to mimic blocky folded sheet steel receiver look) it doesn't have the higher grip clearance like an AR, one of the key advantages of ergonomics.

I wonder how the thumb on the shooting hand will be interacting with the latch thing.

A number of questions why they did some things the way they did, but overall I like that they don't try to invent the wheel and instead put some proven designs together. They also have 308 version!!

Let's call it questionable:
- locking latch
- ejection port cover opening UP
- only two positions of gas system, normal and suppressed, missing adverse
- rail totally covering gas adjustment valve, need screwdriver to reach
- screws in the bolt carrier (ar-ish), this is cargo-cult, but hey, it's stupid but it works, so whatever...
- as mentioned in video - steel screws going directly into aluminum receiver threads
TBH these are the things one can live with (in Canada, in current firearm ban situation we are in)

Many other things I like. I'm not sure how the barrel is fixed, seems like barrel nut to the receiver? So I have some hopes in regards of barrel and design overall.
And the biggest question is - how's the quality?

A tech video for those who is interested in details of design.

I don't know how to feel about this. I want to hate it so much but I know I would buy one if they were here.
:agree:
Pretty much this above.

My first thoughts were, Oh great, now we get a double prohibited firearm.

There was a US company, I think the name was Red Rock or something like that that made a 5.56 FAL.
I always drooled when I saw it at gun shows in the NSM.

i think is r18 (or similar 180 clone) with hinge/lever takedown. salesmen in video seem to care more about stock and handguard than actual operation so my guess is made offsite (sterling?) and brigade firearms just bolt things onto it.

edit - did watch takedown video and internals seem pretty unique to that rifle. i'd wait for teething problems to work themselves out ...

I want to see the durability of the push rod key ( aka the fake gas key ) - IIRC that is the number 1 problem back in the old days when every commercial maker rushed to the fad of push rod AR. Gas key screw shearing, down right shearing of that part....etc

Note the final versions of HK416 and Colt M5 have a slanted geometry on the back end of the push rod key but this one probably needs to be hollowed out a bit for the spring guide to fit in. It also uses two torx keys like the regular AR BGC to attach the push rod key. That was a common failure that Colt discovered IIRC - so M5 has a different way to attached the push rod key.

The spring guide will be balancing some of the force of the push rod, but I kinda have my doubt.....

The correct way to built this is the Beretta NARP. Ditch the tubular AR BGC, and insert steel rail to the aluminum receiver.

Yep, I mean sometimes it strikes me that maybe not all firearm designers are firearm aficionados? Browning and Stoner kind of guys are born once in a generation, but to be good designer you don't have to be Browning or Stoner, you just need to learn from the experience of others, proven solutions are everywhere. Just put them together.

I watched the video the 2 second time, they actually did copy Colt M5 push rod key attachment design. The push rod key is slotted into a beveled notch like the rear sight of a pistol.

Oh, that is what you meant. Yes, it is slotted into carrier, but also retained by two screws. Solid square brick carrier in ar180-style (and then all ACRs, Brens etc) would be my preference.

So let me get this straight….they are marketing it as a hybrid of two already prohibited firearms (one of them since 1992) and you’re wondering if we might see it in Canada? Just checking to see if I’m missing something?

Its like rudimentary math. A negative x a negative = a positive. So, not banned :)

I was thinking more like Animal House, “Double Secret Probation!” I’m still waiting for the firearm that the government is going to make Triple Prohibited - those gotta be the ones so dangerous that all you have to do is speak there name and the Horsemen show up and arrest you.
