Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

There ya go!

The SVD style stock is cool and all… but a regular pistol grip and fixed stock is what I desire. Oh well. Gave up on the T81 platform all together. I really liked the SR… but it didn’t do anything better than a well-rounded SKS (I got good with stripper clips) And damnit! It’s still doesn’t “replace” the awesome Vz58.

It's a cope gun, no doubt. Maybe one day we can get the real deal.

Type 81 SR on sale now for $999, side mount and rail available. Last SR shipment. Next shipment will be standard SE again due to high demand:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Does the adapter have the divot under the tube threads to lock in a fixed rifle stock?

can you shoulder and use the trigger group in that configuration @Roog on the left hand side and shoulder?

So I gave it a go at my work bench. The rail is biased a little to the left of the receiver but I still didn't have any issues sighting down the scope however YMMV. No issues with trigger operation. I couldn't thumb the safety on the right side of the receiver with my left hand at all. Maybe someone else could reach it but I've got average hands and I'd have to use my support hand to toggle it so that may be an issue.

I'm sure TI will post their own official post, but, as noted by others on this thread, TI has released a full length, rear biased, and forward biased Master Mount 1913 rail for the Type 81, along with a matching Type 81 specific Master Mount side rail to attach them to. Side rails to attach offset red dots, flashlights, and other accessories to the mounts are also available. Links available on the first post of this Reddit firearmsdealscanada thread, https://www.reddit.com/r/firearmdealscanada/comments/173mz3t/tactical_imports_type_81_master_mount_full_length/ . The 1913 Master Mount rails will like work with 3 Bar D Prod and Sigmaco Canada side rails, but I cannot confirm this at this time.

For those tempted by the new rail and the $999 price for the SR, but who are willing to forgo the Dragonv looks for a more adjustable stock and conventional pistol grip, Sigmaco Canada still has plenty of SR AR buffer tube and pistol grip adapter in stock. This may help you scratch the Type 81 Rifle itch until more fixed and folder rifles are available.

perferct thank you i like the sr81 way better that way.

Has anyone used a sigmaco side rail and a VZ 58 optic mount? I have a couple a low profile and a high mount one and looking for a decent reasonably priced install. The sigmaco side rail with pins is around $250 which seems a bit high for what it is. If I buy the pins from Ti and the OR rail from sigmaco would that also work?

I really like the look of the AK master long rail but really expensive setup. Tried to find a pic in this thread using CSA VZ rail but could Not find one. Thanks for any input. Also assume this setup would also work on LMG.

The only side rail which works with the VZ58 optic mount I have is the 3Dbar rail. The Mastermount from TI is too low. It will not clear the receiver cover. I just tried yesterday. I also suspect that the sigmaco rail is too low just by looking at the picture.

Not sure which VZ mount you have, if you have a higher VZ mount, it may work, the one I have is low.

However, the TI Mastermount rail sits far enough back to allow for a bigger POSP scope, like 8x42 or 3-9x42. It will not touch the rear sight. But you have to mount the scope to the rail first and then screw it down since it slides onto the rail from the front, and you can't do it with the rail mounted. No big deal, just be aware of it.

Thanks for the info and verification.. I have both high and low mounts. Will the long side rail also work with these VZ mounts as well? Or stick to the short style side rail? I don’t like that I have to buy a right safety as well. I would love to get AK master but like $500 bones once said and done.

I don't have a high VZ mount but the mount itself works with the TI Mastermount rail, the low VZ mount just does not clear the top. You need a right side safety.

Can anyone chime in with the length of the TI flash hider? I want to put a flash hider on an LMG (M16x1RH) but also keep the OAL as short as possible. The TI flash hider looks really long and slant compensators spit huge fireballs. I'm trying to figure out if the TI flash hider is shorter than using the TNA adapter and a .30cal A2. Unless there are other options for M16x1RH muzzle devices that I've overlooked?

You have pretty limited options with that thread. The length is just over 3 1/4 inches. I just leave mine off.
