No kidding. Metis have never claimed any different. That's what our IDENTITY is based on. So what is pistol trying to get at?
I can assume it's a jab as to why Metis have different rights and I've explained it above.
There was dispute within the Canadian Metis Nation not long ago regarding the Ontario Metis and the authenticity of it's Membership.
Yes the Michif Language owes it's roots to the French Language but is there Metis in Quebec? The Metis National Council and First Nations do not recognize historical Metis communities in Quebec. The Ontario metis claims are also contested by First Nations and the National Metis Council yet they are gaining traction with the Ontario Government under Truth and Reconcilliation apparently.
But NO there are no recognized historic Metis communities in Quebec and east of Quebec despite the Language of the Voyageurs being adopted and altered by the Metis.
I'll be starting my Michif Language lessons soon. Hope I can learn it as I had a real hard time grasping French wayyyyy backin highschool LOL
