Light weight rifles??

I've been told that Sako 90 is a good rifle. Peak version in carbon fiber stock is 5.7 lbs (2.6 kg).

CZ 600 Trail is 6.2 lbs (2.8 kg).

Bergara B-14 Ridge Carbon around 6.6 lbs (3kg)

Sig Cross a bit less than 6.5 lbs (3kg)

Can you get any of these for $1000?

We have a LW storm in 6.5. I haven't weighed it, but its a feather with talleys and a vx2 2-7.

I imagine! This one will get a VX-3HD. I normally like Talley's on hunting rifles but I have some sweet TPS lightweight rings and found some Burris mounts for $10 in the Cabela's clearance aisle so will probably go with that.

Should be here either Friday or early next week. Haven't owned a non-rimfire Savage in about 20 years so hoping for a box of magic and precision.

The Model Sevens have a great receiver but the barrels were a gamble on accuracy. Some were great shooters and capable of shooting a tight cloverleaf with factory ammo while others grouped like shotguns. If a Seven is available, use it for a custom build and get a good barrel cut short with a light to standard contour.

Or, buy the Tikka. Good barrels. I hate the plastic mags and never warmed up to the receiver but they tend to be accurate and inexpensive.

Like a lot of Rem products, they were pretty good, for the most part, til mid-late 90's or so. New Rem doesn't have a track record to go by yet, at the price of them now, I'd pass on them, although the newest ones have a Timney in them now.. These days it's tough not to go Tikka,ya, plastic stuff, wouldn't want to stomp on a mag, but, for the average hunter, plenty good enough, and if you don't like the stock, that can be remedied easily enough down the road. Hard to beat the triggers in them, and cheap to improve with springs if wanted.

To me, this seems light, compared to what else I have in bolt action. I really like this one {5.56}, & the short, heavier' barrel still. Also comes in .308 & they take AR mags..

You will not find any better for that price. It's about as perfect as one could expect. Those remington mountain rifles do come up at that price point from time to time.

I've found that 6 pounds is the sweet spot for an ultralight rifle. Below that you pay LOTS of money for diminishing returns and you also lose lots of stability when shooting
