The all new Famae flat top.

Would someone owning SG542 in 308 be able to measure spent brass and how much headspace growth it has, some of these new Canadian made 308s have chamber reamed out way out and being wayyyy out of sammi spec therefore rendering them pretty unsafe.

what about the workmanship? it likely not well from the pictures????

Actually, as I said in my post above, I think that this particular batch of FAMAE SG rifles is somewhat better finished than the previous importations. FAMAE appears to be using a new final finish on the exterior of their rifles, which is thinner than the previous, thick enamel paint. I think that these rifles actually look quite good! Not quite on par with my Swissarms SIG 550, but not as far off as you might think.

Received mine today, nice looking rifle, and I can confirm my packaging had a nice tip sticking out the side. Going to try it this weekend and see how she performs.

I think that I prefer the Green/Black combination with the Zhukov folder. Now to paint up my other Black furniture to match, so that my SG 540 can have it's two-tone finish back!

The LOP as you see the rifle at its shortest setting is approximately 12". I use a 13" LOP, so am comfortable with the Stock extended out one "click".

Any new accuracy reports with this current batch of rifles yet?

I'll be hitting the range tomorrow with a variety of .308 and 7.62 NATO ammo ranging from South African Battle Pack to Canadian-issue IVI, to Federal Gold Medal Match in 168gr and 175 gr loads. I should have enough on hand to give a reasonable expectation for accuracy from this production lot of FAMAE SG 542s. Watch and Shoot!

What are you using for paint? I’d like to do the same.

I am using a "Rattle-Can" Scale Modelling Paint specially formulated to adhere to plastics. The brand is Vallejo Hobby Paint for metal and plastics, in "Russian Green" which is the closest match that I could find to the original FAMAE OD Green furniture colour. The Top Coat is also an Aerosol Spray Can - Tamiya Color for Plastics in TS-80 "Flat Clear". The two brands play well together, with no adverse reaction to one being sprayed over top of the other. This is important as you do NOT want to see your otherwise perfect colour coat bubble and smoke from a bad mix of lacquer and acrylic or some such!

The CeraKote colour for the FAMAE Zhukov Stock Adapter is "E-100 Blackout", which is supposed to give an "eggshell" finish similar to that used by FAMAE with their paint over parkerizing. The CeraKote requires an Airbrush for application and a suitable oven (I use a large Toaster Oven) that can bake items at 230F for 2 hours in order to cure/harden the finish.

Based on accuracy results with my two previous SG 542s, 3 MOA would be quite acceptable. It is the past potential for 4 MOA (or worse) that concerns me!

We shall find out later today what this "new batch" of 542s is capable of....

Is there any way to attach a light to the foreend?

Tape.

All joking aside, there isn't much that you can do without modifying either the Handguard or the Gas Glock. I would refrain from drilling into the Gas Block or welding a rail onto the Block, so this leaves the handguards themselves. Being relatively thin plastic, you don't want to hang a whole bunch of weight off of whatever rail you attach to the Handguard. I would drill 2 small holes for mounting either end of a short Picatinny Rail Section to the Handguard and leave it at that. Trim the mounting Bolts such that they do not protrude beyond the rear surface of the nut used to secure the Bolt to the Handguard (to avoid interfering with the Gas Tube or Barrel). Back the Mounting Bolt and Nut with a Washer on the inside of the Handguard to spread out the stress of the 2 mounting points. Done correctly, this should leave a small section of Picatinny Rail on the outside of he Handguard at the place of your choosing for mounting the Light. The Mounting Bolts at either end of the Picatinny Rail section are backed by a washer (to even out the load pulling on the Bolt and Nut) and then the Nut itself. This method will leave 2 small holes in your handguard should you choose to remove the Pcicatinny Rail section.

Another option if using a lightweight flashlight, is to attach the Picatinny Rail section to the Handguard using double-sided 5tidky Tape. You can always clean off the residue with Isopropyl Alcohol should you chose to remove the Rail and Tape. Just beware of harsher solvents or chemicals which could attack the plastic Handguards themselves!

Looks great. The green and black always looks good on these rifles. I do just for looks prefer the fixed stock the rifle comes with. But function wise, the folder is always nice. Looking forward to your shooting impressions. Thanks for sharing.

There is a quad rail forend out there for the famae, I went back to the cold war look for mine, as it seems rather clunky with the quad rail
