Gaining ground. Hunting will not stop wild pigs invasion in Canada.

I don't see how wild pigs could be a problem... I mean if anything its probably taste better than commercial pork... just give us a chance, Ontario doesn't even allow hunting wild pigs...no wonder its becoming a problem.

OMG!!!!!! Do a little reading before you live the old adage "it's better to be silent and thought an idiot than typing something online and proving it" :)

All through the southern states they are learning from their mistakes and finding things that work way better than just hunting them willy nilly. The problem down there is that this knowledge has come a little late and the problem is already insurmountable. It's not too late up here, maybe!

Fuk it, I want to hunt them to extinction.

The whole argument you're putting forth hinges on people actively trapping these groups. To what extent, if any, are they doing this -- and is the effort enough to stop it?

If not, then there's no point in preventing hunting. Saying you can't do Plan A because it harms Plan B which is a better plan is worthless if nobody is actually doing Plan B.

It also puts a full stop on any further discussion on improvements in alternatives (such as ways to improve the effectiveness of other solutions).

It's amazing how any time the gov't says "You cannot do it -- I will handle it", the problem gets worse and in the end we all pay for it...

Trapping alive is a great idea if you have a dedicated slaughterhouse nearby, and it probably will not be approved by the government for anything except wild swine.
Cross contamination is a real thing.
Intermittent numbers such as Canada would provide would not be a viable economic enterprise.
My two bits only......

I don't disagree with you at all. I was replying to a hunt them to extinction post and was pointing out that many have tried and none have succeeded. Same with poisoning and many other measures. Do I trust the government to take care of the problem? Not at all, they are all a bunch of bumbling idiots and are incapable of making any intelligent decisions about anything.

Always one Nimrod that will sound off like he did. They just don't know... kind of like a new kid on location ...tryna be cool and talking when they ought not. Looking stupid doing it too

Put a 500 $ bounty on each wild hogs killed and you will see results

Can’t do that or every idiot with a BB gun to a howitzer Will hunt them day or night, in town or outa. Safety be dammed.
Shoot if they are paying that much I’d quit my job and hunt pigs… average 2 pig per day =$1000.00/day = 20-25grand/ month ( need a few days off) that is appx $300,000.00 per year. That’s doctor money right there. I’m in !

Good luck killing two a day! This ain't Texas y'all! And there are not enough hunters left in this country any more that a bounty would pose any danger. A couple years ago a nearby RM had a bounty on beavers., $35 per tail, they were not overrun with beaver hunters or trappers. I only knew of two guys that went after them regularly, one of whom did quite well on them, most never even knew there was a bounty.

They have already firmly planted themselves here and are not likely to be going anywhere, especially when you see the efforts attempted south of the border. We might as well take advantage of this situation and enjoy some bush pork.

It would sure be a perfect fit to hunt with all those scary black rifles.

Maybe we should introduce Siberian tigers to control them.

Yeah, right - this is going to get implemented by the government brain trust that is culling wolves, has bounties on most larger predators, and is eradicating predators near Grande Cache Alberta to create a "safe" calving ground for caribou - I think that last one is a Federal initiative, or at least funded from them. Also in several provinces to cull deer in response to CWD infection, rather than come up with a way to actually deal with the prion. In the mean time, I think those European Boar sort of evolved for centuries in similar terrain to where the Siberian Tigers once lived - perhaps those two species have figured out how to balance off each other??

European boars have the capacity to do ecological damage in Europe too. A shortage of predators, hunters and ample agricultural land is a recipe for disaster.

Hopefully our predator species and lack of agriculture in vast areas helps keep them at bay.

As much as I want to hunt boars, I'd prefer they didn't destroy our already devastated ecosystems
