I thought this one was "nice", as Ruger Gold Label aren't all that common, even more so a engraved one (by Jerome C. Glimm)
- I kind of like "airy" pattern, for lack of a better word.

I like that style of engraving. Ruger Gold Label shotguns are rather scarce---too bad Ruger stopped production.

While engraving on firearms in "new" condition looks nice... I can't help to find engraving on "older" used firearms nicer

That is beautiful engraving, Sillymike. I'm with you, the old techniques of hammer-and-burin produce results that newer machine-done engraving can't duplicate. This does not take away the artistry of modern hand engraving with powered tools, but the results are very different to my eyes. And laser engraving, while attractive, is soulless. I want guns that artisans have fussed over, in the eternal search for perfection.

And let's hear it for hinge pin decoration!

Grouse gun anyone?

Supreme de Luxe 79782

A 20 bore Supreme de Luxe with a brand new engraving pattern, designed by the maker, the client and the engraver Nigel Westaway. The theme is the ruffed grouse, with its tail fan featuring prominently on the fences (detonators) and a ruffed grouse vignette on the underside of the action. The rest of the engraving is a fresh take on our traditional fine rose and scroll pattern. The gun is topped off with an engraved grip cap as well as heal and toe plates on the butt end. It has the now traditional semi rounded action with a beautiful walnut stock and fore end featuring the usual best oil finish and hand checkering. Much of the work was done in house, but as always a number of trade workers have lent their expertise including Paul Stevens of Steven & Johnston for the barrel blacking, Romain Lepinois for the stocking and Martin Jones for the stunning oak and leather case.

Just love the way they extended the tail fans on the fences onto the barrels, rather than crowd them. That is beautiful!

That Heym is about as pretty as they come. I used to have a F.W. Heym......extremely well made gun but engraving was so so and the wood was blah. VictoryXC has it now. He stole it from me!
