The all new Famae flat top.

Mine fits well but I took it off.
It's hard to get a proper grip with it.
It doesn't fold deep into the handguard.
This is something the Sig 550 series fixed.
Almost looks like it was designed last minute for a corporate meeting with a week's notice.

The front sight-less gas block is the "upgraded" one, it may be better to sell your new one and just get an older imported one that has the sights
 
My 542 feels good, added a nice cheek riser. I need to round off the edges of my folding bipod, so that it feels more comfortable when tucked into the handguard. I really want to improve the trigger. Any ideas on improving the trigger ?

Cool, btw, my 542 arrived in good packaging in only 7 days, should have ordered a few more mags. Nice folding bipod system.

Yup, I like it. But I'm going to round the edges, as they feel sharp when folded into the forearm. You will need to wear gloves during winter as the metal would freeze yer fingers fast
 
I’ve got a question for owners with high round counts.

What parts should I consider having on hand? Does the 540 break anything in particular or is it more like a G36?
 
I have the ere systems accessories rail installed on my sg542 with a kac vertical grip. its a very solid mounted rail but i had add high temp tape under the handguard to stop it from wiggling around due to the out of spec handguard. But it's solid now
 
I had my new 540 at the range with factory 5/30 famae magazines and the bolt kept getting caught on the first round when I'd rack it back and to the point where I couldn't even rack it back at all. I also didn't have any pressure on the magazine to force it up.

I took out the magazine and the bolt scraped up the first round pretty hard that it left a good scratch.

And the rail wopped its way out. I got home and put red loc tight on it. Hopefully, it holds.

Is anyone else having issues with these magazines?

It sounds as though your magazines are pinned too tightly. Some folks pin .223/5.56mm Magazines so that they are very tight against a closed-bolt/Carrier, as this ensures that a 6th round cannot be inserted by overzealous firearms officers or RCMP on a fishing expedition, resulting in charges of possessing a prohibited device....

You need to do one of two things. Either load your magazines into the rifle with the Action held to the Rear by the Bolt Catch, or you can re-drill the rivet-hole slightly lower on the magazine body to create space for the loaded rounds in the magazine beneath the Bolt-Carrier. The second option is by far the trickier of the two, as you could easily wind up with a 6-round Magazine. I therefore recommend loading your mags with the Action held to the rear. Then slam the action forward by releasing the Bolt Catch, thereby chambering your first round without binding/scratching/denting the loaded shell-casing (with pressure spikes caused by any dents).

The Rail Screws have been holding tight on my SG-542 ever since I Red Loctited them 2 weeks ago, so you should be fine!
 
My sg542 has stopped holding back the bolt. can insert empty mag and cycle the bolt freely. well cleaned, was working then just stopped.

mag looks fine nothing appears broken I'm kinda stumped

Only thing I might suggest is separating the upper and lower, inserting an empty magazine, and observe the bolt hold-open in operation.

I've ordered the large, and small, spare parts kits from TI. My rifle runs flawlessly but I want to be prepared since this rifle may have to last a long time.

Interesting, the 540 mags don't have metal pins in them but a plastic internal pin. I wonder how this will work. Seems like the factory made them too tight. I could probably tinker with it but I don't want the 6th round and I don't wanna fck it up either because them mags are pricy. I guess I could take the AR mag conversation but I like the SG magazines.

I used loctite on the forward screw on my rail, as the back screw was tight, neither have come loose after 500-ish rounds.

I don't think anything else is reasonably necessary.
