Is it worth owning one?

I know it's not practical or too fun to shoot (my wrists don't like the 50ae recoil) but would you consider spending the extra bucks merely for the cool factor?
 
Yes it is but only you can answer that. You can't buy one anyways so unless you are in the states you are S.O.L.
 
I'm not the biggest person around. 6 feet tall, 180lbs. Regular sized hands. I find it fun to shoot my Magnum Research 50AE. Don't always trust what you see online. I'm not worried about "having my wrists broken"....lol. It's definitely a powerful round and impressive to shoot.
 
I thought so - twice - .50 AE and .44 Rem Mag. Built like a tank - really solid. Good fit and finish. As already stated, the weight of it helps to mitigate felt recoil - still a handful though. They won't cycle reliably if you limp wrist it, or use light loads.
 
It's not practical at all, but completely disagree that it's not fun; my .50AE Desert Eagle is probably the most fun gun I own. It's ridiculous in a lot of ways (Size, weight, bad ergonomics, cost, recoil, etc), but most of those things are why I love it. Though I do seem to have a fascination with big ridiculous handguns (Also bought a 460mag revolver). I bring it out to our weekly steel challenge shoots a few times a year and let a bunch of friends shoot a mag through it, and never ONCE has someone not had a big sh!t eating grin on their face when they were done.

If we are ever able to transfer handguns again, I would say get one, 100%. But only if you reload, lol.
 
Ahh … the one that “got away”.
Didn’t have the cash or stomach to take on 4.4K + tax and tip before the transfer ban.
Kinda wish I got one in the last weeks before the ban when I had the chance.

One of my favorite purchases. I call it my 'giggle gun'. I only take it out a few times a year but it always leaves a huge smile on everyone's face. Mine is in 44mag, and I reload so doing a couple quick mag dumps is easier on the wallet. RINGS OF FIRE!

Where do you live? Half the fun with these things is shooting them, the other half is watching other people react to shooting them. If you're local to someone with one, there's a better than zero chance they'd be willing to meet up with you at a range some time and let you shoot a couple rounds.

Unless you've shot them, and were just considering buying one just to own it. Can't help you there.
 
I know a guy in Alaska who carries one as his bear defense pistol. He knows there are more practical choices, but the gun was a gift from a relative now deceased and he carries it to honour him.
