It's not practical at all, but completely disagree that it's not fun; my .50AE Desert Eagle is probably the most fun gun I own. It's ridiculous in a lot of ways (Size, weight, bad ergonomics, cost, recoil, etc), but most of those things are why I love it. Though I do seem to have a fascination with big ridiculous handguns (Also bought a 460mag revolver). I bring it out to our weekly steel challenge shoots a few times a year and let a bunch of friends shoot a mag through it, and never ONCE has someone not had a big sh!t eating grin on their face when they were done.
If we are ever able to transfer handguns again, I would say get one, 100%. But only if you reload, lol.
