So I have a client of mine that has a cooey 12g that he asked if I’d be interested in buying potentially, and I was wondering if you guys can shed some light on it for me. Any info or things to look for and etc

This is the only picture I have of it right now, but I will be seeing them on the weekend again so could get a few more of it will help. Also curious as to what the value is to offer him for it. I’m thinking of doing a small restoration on it and then try to resell/trade it to fund a semi auto I’ve had my eyes on

Maybe $50.00 for the mere fact that you maybe want a project to bring it back to life. Mind you if the bore is like the outside, then $25.00 as mentioned for parts.

Ya I’ll see if I can get some better pics and show the inside of the bore as well. Hopefully it is salvageable

If the metal looks like that what does the wood look like. Even fixed up it's going to look rough . I bought one in 28 gauge turned out it had been fixed up from badly rusted condition and I had to finally give it away.

The wooden stock and foregrip on it are in REALLY good shape, looks to be refinished with a golden oak like colour. He said he finished the stock on it awhile back. He said his grandpa gave him the gun when he was like 18, he’s not in his 60s

In that condition it’s not worth much, I’ve bought them in excellent condition for $200-250. You can probably save the exterior but it will be pitted by the looks of the rust, it’ll be a heater gun no matter what the outcome is.

Heater gun ? What do you mean by that

Yeah beater, it’ll never look 100% up close unless you bondo the pitting and ceracoat it but that honestly would look weird on an old single shot. No point in that unless it’s got some big sentimental value, you’ll spend more money fixing it up than it’s worth basically. Projects are fun to take on but most are money loosing ventures.

I don’t think I’d pay anything for that but if a friend wanted to trade for it or give it away I’d consider trying to bring it back provided the inside of the barrel and trigger group weren’t rusted to hell. I redid a M94 for a close friend and thankfully the bore and internals were rust free, it was stored in a soft bag in a seacan for god knows how long. The pattern of the fabric lining was etched into the side of the receiver, it wasn’t pretty but I managed to save it fairly well. It’s a solid 5-10 footer now, shoots really nice.

Not sound to rude but I have thrown better Cooeys in the dumpster
Take the fire pin out take the wood off the ejector out the hinge metal and throw the bbl and action in the dumpster
It’s worth 100$ stripped for parts and 25$ as a gun

So it’s likely not worth much if anything at all then eh ? Darn kinda was hoping I could restore and sell it or something to make a few bucks and etc… :( dang, I guess you can’t win them all lol

You sure wouldn't make anything on it if you put money into it. It would be worth less than a nice original and original 840's can be had for under $200.00, often closer to the $150.00 mark.

Dang that’s no good lol was hoping for a deal and maybe make a quick dollar. Boooooo lol

Give him a reasonable amount, considering the condition, and use it to hone your skills. You might be surprised how it turns out. If nothing else, you will have tried and will have a beater truck gun or parts. Being a good Canadian Cooey, the poor thing deserves a good home!
