F-class, PRS, long range gong ringing…lessons mostly irrelevant for a hunting cartridge. Does Erik Corona even hunt?
Life would be pretty boring if we all shot badgers with a 222
Id argue that. Maybe irrelevant if sitting in a blind and shooting 200 yards. If your a long range hunter its very relevant. The skills that go into competitive shooting are what 90% of people who hunt and think they can cleanly take an animal at 500 yards need to learn. I see it all the time guys thinking they can take an animal a long ways away and end up wounding it and never finding it. And it has nothing to do with caliber/bullet choice, its the fact they just put it their crosshairs a foot over its back and let er fly without taking account into wind. I call it spray n pray, let em fly and hope for the best and its getting old seeing it online and hearing guys brag about it at local buck nights.
The reason I brought up EC is cause if a caliber is accurate enough for him to win matches, its accurate enough and efficient enough to be a good long range hunting option in the hands of a competent shooter.

F-class doesn’t start until 300m. 90% of game is killed inside this.
Boring is spending $7k on a hunting rifle to accomplish the same as walking into Cabelas buying a 270 win, and further pretending that brass life matters to you.
Why so bitter Buck about new Cartridges? No Buddies trying to get rid of all the old FUDD cartridges just coming up some modern improvements of cartridges. RELAXE it’s All Good stuff for the shooting and hunting sports. No Belts - Better shoulder angles - COAL advantages combined with Better faster twists make for Great Cartridges . JMO RJ
It’s all for fun RJ. Cartridge choice matters about as much as the colour of your shorts. But is the topic of extensive internet analysis.
LOL better be Carefull WE could get Chuck wound up ! RJ

284, 284 shehane, 7mm/300 WSM, and now the 7mm/6.5 PRC are all started life for more speed on the 180 grain bullet, after a couple years the thought process in F-class was, the gain in speed gained no points on the target, but barrel wear was much faster and barrels were lasting between 500 and 1000 less rounds then the standard 284 win pushing the 180 grain at 2820 FPS, so now the thought process is, the 284 is running at 60K PSI, the 7mm/6.5 PRC down closer to 50 PSI, easier on the brass, but not easier on the barrel, and the cool kids running any of the aforementioned cases after the 284 win are still burning more powder to get the same speed, paying more for brass, and paying more for dies as well, the whole 7mm thing has gone full circle
Regardless of what works best in F-Class matters not in this case, but thankfully gunsmiths like Alex Wheeler are creative enough to see when something may be better, those F-Class guys are dealing with pretty thin margins of improvement, doesn’t much matter for hunting, 280 rem, 280 AI, 7x57, 7mm Rem Mag, 7 WSM, 7 SAUM, 7mm PRC……7mm-6.5 PRCW no deer will know the difference when shot with any of those cartridges only the deer nut behind the gun knows the difference
But I always say it would be pretty boring if we were all the same and had that simple mindset of “oh the 270 win or 30-06 is all we need, heck we all could be shooting the 7x57 from and since 1893 as it still works just fine.
We all could be driving model T fords but I bet everyone on this site has a new vehicle they drive everyday.
So I say buy that new gun, try that new cartridge, buy a new truck !
For fear of destroying what’s left of my mental heath I better not open that.
That is a FACT ! Very disappointed in Corona’s pickRJ
