What ammo will give a guy the best bang for the buck?

Duds and poor accuracy doesn’t help reduce the gopher population.

Realistically though any cheap hollow point will reduce the population nothing special about them. If you want more consistency I have had "great success " with eley high Velocity hollow points

Any hollow point will do the trick. I am impressed with the Mexican stuff, Aguila. Nice snap to it, never had a misfire, does the job on gophers. I've used thousands of blue box Federal, Winchester 333,555 etc. Also used lots of Western, some Remington Yellow Jackets, NOT the dirty crap.

No need to over think shooting gophers. If you get in a good patch, it will mostly be closer range blasting. I've shot gophers with a shotgun on occasion. I've starting using 17 HMR as well. 22's rule, though. Nothing like getting in on a all out attack.

I used to help a friend fight back the hordes of woodchucks (AKA groundhogs) that were constantly invading his pastures and we found that the higher velocity hollow points were excellent, quite often the chucks would drop dead into the entrance of their burrows and effectively bury themselves. If they had been accessible at the time, I might have tried the fragging bullets you can buy now, but hollow points are the sensible everyday choice, and as already stated find and use a brand that groups well in your rifle.

My browning BL22 shoots just about anything good enough for gophers, federal blue box hollow points, remington gold bullets, but my christensen arms ranger on the other hand is a bit fussier, it will shoot the remington cyclones OK but it really loves the SK high velocity hollow points which are really hard to find these day's. Your CZ will probably shoot most of the bulk hollow point ammo good enough for gophers most of which are shot under 75 yards, buy whatever you can get your hands on and have some fun.

Shopping around the best prices are probably CCI SV and Blazer.
Expecting explosive reactions is better served with accuracy in your rifle and limiting your distance.
Head shots should be your objective but there are advocates for gut shots too.
How many big game hunters advocate for gut shots tells me where ethics lie.

You've got a nice pkg on its way. Don't be feeding it ammo because it's "on-sale". Buy a few different types and see what your rifle shoots best.
I don't hunt but my 22lr bolts seem to shoot CCI Blazers equally well.
Enjoy the new "toy".....

There is a distinctive slap to a HV Hollowpoint, that is mirrored in the reaction of the gopher. I no longer use cheap bullets on anything meat related. My go to is CCI Mini Mags....."Choot 'em"!

Answer: Any high velocity hollow point your rifle likes

Since wind is almost always a factor, I almost never bother with anything but body/center mass shots. Especially when there are allot of gophers. For that reason, never anything but the HV/HPs. Maximum damage, even on imperfect shots. I wish my gopher rifle liked CCI Velocitor, it would probably be all I used if it did.

Any shell that your rifle likes will work but I'll ad that hollow points get a few less richochettes than solid nose bullets and you tend to see the results more if they don't run down the hole before dying.
My Ruger 77/22 really likes Federal 525 bulk pack ammo and my previous rifle, a Bl22, prefered Yellow Jackets. The Aguila's seem to be pretty good in my 77/22 as well.

Save your 'best bang' ammo for your beer cans - buy quality/accurate ammo even for pests. Step up to an ethical hobby.
