I came across this information via various YouTube channel memberships. I don’t own a Longthorne nor do I have any experience with them. I did have high hopes upon learning of them years ago and found their manufacturing process (and marketing - have people standing on barrels supported only at either end) interesting.

Based on conversations and photos shared in those membership groups, it appears UK customers have experienced a fair amount of QC and customer service related issues. The extent resulted in some prominent UK sporting goods stores no longer selling them.

This particular Longthorne pictured below is apparently now on its third set of barrels due to the same bulging issue. The savvy YouTube watcher that follows shotgun and clay related content might recognize that table in the background.

A shooter at our club has one....it's been problematic for a year now. Failure to fire on the bottom barrel....also becomes a single shot if the bottom barrel is fired first. Was told it required "premium" Euro ammo to work properly....but that didn't fix it. Several sets of firing pins and springs haven't fixed it. To Longthorne's credit they continue to work with the owner that actually traveled to England to be fitted, sending parts and videos on how to install them. They also appear to be lacking a proper support facility in Canada. That all said, the owner shoots the gun very well as it is fitted to him.

The owner is a lot more patient with the manufacturer than I'd be...they'd have gotten the gun back with an ultimatum to fix it or money back. I don't think Longthorne shotguns were ready for public consumption based on my exposure to a sample of one.

For a gun that starts in the 5 figure range this is unacceptable. The owner is indeed a patient man, kind of sounds like the Lamborghini of shotguns, lots of flash but no quality.

I wonder if thats why Johnny C from TGS outdoors is switching to a Beretta now? There titanium barreled 28ga looked interesting.

He was interviewed on a podcast late last year. When asked about his Longthorne sponsorship, he explained that he was no longer sponsored by them due to their displeasure in him reviewing other guns. As result they’ve “parted ways”. During his January members q&a he detailed some (not all) of the problems he’s encountered with his Longthorne shotgun. He didn’t come out and say it but it sounds like he doesn’t have the shotgun anymore and is now primarily shooting his Miroku.

Dating is great, the wedding is nice, the honeymoon is awesome….then you find there are some idiosyncrasies you just don’t like…..

I think you’re taking a chance with many of the lesser know makers. A fiend of mine has a beautiful Holloway and Naughton that he had made and fitted for him and he has had nothing but trouble with it. And it isn’t a 5 figure gun, it’s 6 figure.

YIKES. What a problem. I think Holloway & Naughton have closed shop.

Huh. I can see where barrel bulges are a serious idiosyncrasy all right. Miroku is an interesting brand, although they're really in love with 12 G it seems. Who is selling them in Canada?
