The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

When did you buy your gunò and was it new? I don't know the nuances of the two but if you bought your gun recently fron a gun store I would assume it is a Gen2. There should be a source that gives you a serial number break. Have you used Google?

If you go to Freedom Ordnance website and go to the section dealing with new Uppers. You will find a place where you can insert the serial number of your gun. The site will tell you whether your gun is a Gen1 or two. It took 3 minutes using Google to find that out.

Google has provided poor results in the past asking the difference between generations with no one really knowing on different models.

Interesting that charging handle looks way better than the original 'enhanced' charging handle. Did it get revamped again in the past two years ? I haven't seen what Nickks looks like so I'm tempted.

Anybody try or know if the Maxim roller delayed blowback buffer system works with the FX-9? It works with any AR9, but I know the FX-9 is ever so slightly different. Even so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with the FX-9 unless the hole in the end of the FX-9 bolt is significantly narrower or shallower than a standard AR9 bolt with the weight removed. Also wondering if anyone has ever put a Maxim PDW stock on their FX-9.

THe bolt is narrower than standard ar9 bolt. Found this out when using an armaspec buffer.

The bolt maybe narrower but the FX9 buffer is the same diameter as and AR15 buffer. I think I have four different buffers around the gun room and they all fit in the FX9. The factory 3 oz buffer is way to light for a blow back 9MM IMHO.

They're THREE oz stock?? That explains all the junk that comes out of them when you shoot them, lol. I HATE ROing people with FX9s, you get peppered with crap every shot if you're standing to the side on the chamber side.

Yup, three oz and small change. Unreal! I run an 8oz buffer in my FX9. My Raven 9 has a heavier bolt and comes with a 8oz buffer. I run it with a 9+ oz buffer.

You really have to be a foot or so behind and to the side of the shooter to avoid most of the grit.. All blow back action guns feature the ejection of some gases and crap. It would be worse if we could run suppressors.

Ah unfortunate sounds like the RDB probably wouldn’t work then. The Scheel RDB system should be fine. Looks like I’ll stick to my original plan of a Kynshot hydraulic buffer and flatwire spring.

Ok getting on this Train.
Placed an order for a 10” with IRun Guns.
It’s FDE and has the pool noodle buffer tube.
Hopefully see it April ish ?
Eventually will be running it in local IPSC matches.
Until then will be picking through this thread for information.

When y0u get it check to see if the LRBO latch works. If it doesn't send it into Wolverine Supplies, the Canadian Warranty Centre. The
'smith there will bend the latch so it will work with some but not all mags. Freedom Ordnance may have fixed the issue, they claim doesn't exist. Another cure is to fill in the notch in the follower of Glock maags. I glued in a piece of plastic cut from a plastic cleaning rod and shaped it with a sander. You may want to get a heavier buffer for the gun as well if Freedom is still sending the gun out with a 3oz buffer.

Thanks Bob grateful for any support/info.
Have had an issue with the follower on SGM
Glock mags on my Vector and had to modify them/fun.
Still studying this thread. Thanks

I sent my FX9 back last year for repairs for the bolt catch / release. They did an adjustment that canted the lever slightly to the left and after I received it back it was locking back 100% of the time. With use, it is at around 90% of the time now, and unless it gets progressively worse, I'm not going to send it back again. I have noticed that the OEM Glock 33/10 mags no longer drop free. The mag release button is mushy and when I press it, it disengages the magazine but it don't drop free - I have to pull it out. Not a dealbreaker, but these little quirks can become slightly annoying, but again not to the point of me sending it back again.

I have not found any tangible difference in altering the buffer - adding quarters, etc. I haven't had any performance issues, per se. For me, this is a plinking gun and possibly for HD, but it hasn't exhibited enough consistent dependability for me to rely on it for the latter. I love the controls, I love the ease of takedown, but small little irritations like the bolt lock back not working (wasn't as big of a deal for me as was the other issue of the manually locked back bolt catch just releasing itself when the gun wasn't even touched - thankfully I had a video of this that was taken inadvertently which showed this - must have been a mosquito landing on the bolt release to send the bolt running for the hills.

I will say, on an unrelated note that my S&W FPC has 100% lock back of the bolt and drop free of the mags (all of which are S&W M&P native 10 rounders). Looking for a higher capacity pinned to 10 mag - probably third party - if I can find it just to see if it will drop free).

Will Wolverine do that under warranty for an IRG sourced gun?
Best to check but I don't see it as an issue. Freedom Ordnance does not have an office in Canada and Wolverine is the Warranty Centre for Canada. I would check with them first if I thought it was a concern.

Hmm starting to look for a Buffer tube any recommendations?
Any reason why? If your gun runs fine with the existing buffer you are golden, if not go with a heavier buffer. It is the weight of the buffer that is to light IMHO.

PS Clean and lube the gun then go shoot the gun. You may find you are happy with the gun as it came.

Eh Bob I bought my FX9 from IRunGuns it’s a (pistol version).as the Americans call it?
The straight tube with the Pool Noodle cover. Not the adjustable stock Buffer Tube.
Finally Spotted one at Solely $120 ouch that’s steep.
