Im new to the world of shooting and am looking into purchasing my first handgun. Im thinking of a CZ, they seem to be moderately priced @ $680-$790 for a new one. Are these good guns? What model is best? I would greatly appreciate any info/opinions you guys could throw my way.

PM Omen....

as for CZ models...look at the CZ85 Combat or CZ 75DB if you want a decocker. The CZ P-01 is cool too...

the gun store im thinking of buying it from has these two models in stock
Cz 85 combat and the Cz 75B SA. which one do you guys think would be the smartest puchase.

do not get the SA (single action) model; the CZs are duty/combat style pistols, if/when you'll decide that you'll want to try your hand as ipsc style competition a SA model will prevent you from shooting/competeting with other guns of that style (to make a long story short, you need to be able to take your first shot DA). If those are your two choices then the 85C, hands down. In my opinion the CZ-75 SA is a pink elephant, neither here nor there. If you want a SA competition CZ pistol there is the IPSC and the Challenger models, if you want a base line 75/85 stay the hell away from the SA ones. THe 85C is the best from the last generation, with the SP-01 being the new 'top of the line.' Get the 85C and you'll be happy ;-)

Lets see if I like CZ pistols. I own a CZ75, CZ75B, CZ75 PCR, CZ75 Compact, CZ75 Rami 40 S&W, and a CZ40B. Yep, I guess I like them. Regards, Richard :D

I love my CZ 85C, Ambi controls and fits my hands well for a double stack. Good prices are available on used ones as well. You can get extra mags easily and not overly expensive. Not as many holster options out there but more than enough to suit most. It's a nice compact gun.

22 conversion kits are also available if you so desire them.

CZ 75 SP-01 on order...

CZ good pistol!

I like my CZ75B and would recommend this firearm to anyone.

I have a question though for other CZ affecianados...

I can't afford to purchase much amunition for practice so I reload... I'd like to hear whatever experiences other folk have had with respect to leading...I'm using hardcast lead RN...and estimates (guesses) whether the wear produced by jacketted rounds might reduce the life-expectancy of the barrel...

I hate cleaning up the lead after a spot of practice but I wouldn't like to have to replace the barrel after five thousand rounds either...:)

I love my CZ75b Tutone. Even more that I put competition sights and a 15lb mainspring. Far faster target acquiring and much lighter trigger now.
I like the 75b because I can shoot IPSC and IDPA and CDP with it.
That and it's dead ###y!

If I only shot IPSC, the SP-01 Shadow would be the way to go.

what NO CZ-97:eek:
i have a CZ75-B and A 97-B love both guns

One more vote for the CZ85 Combat. I have an early model CZ75 that has serious modifications (new custom barrel, Bomar rib, trigger/hammer work) and is a joy to shoot. Unfortunately it is in no way a stock gun anymore. Because of this I bought the CZ 85 Combat for competition. Great gun. Not as good as my CZ75 but decent.

I own a SP01 tactical (decocker) and CZ75 tactical sport. In my opinion, both amazing pistols well worth their price tag. The tactical sport has the lightest factory single action trigger I've ever seen, is amazingly accurate, and as the SP01 has a great feel to it. Both balance well and seem instinctive to me moreso then most any other semi auto pistol I've held. Only drawback on the TS is the HUGE handle...it's a handful. I sanded down the grip panels to remove the checkering and this resulted in a much better fit. Will likely get some Ghost grips and a ghost aluminum magwell for it in the near future however.

Mechanically, it's ship-shape. Thousands of rounds through them and I've never had a problem. Cleaning is easy, etc.

I'm a fan of the CZ-75B models myself!

They are alright for the money, but as I recently found out, you get what you pay for. The fit and finish is inferior to West European guns and they often have reliability issues out of the box (most commonly inconsistent ejection). In other words, don't fool yourself thinking you get an HK/Sig for half the price.

I've put over 5000 rounds through my CZ75b in the last year, since purchase new, and not had a single FTE.
