Out of the closet - Switchin Teams,,, well sort of!

Yeah maybe, I’ve used one on a couple 12g setups before. A 20” and a 14”, worked well. Surprisingly well with shot patterns and point of aim, a lot of grouse were scrubbed off the road one year lol.

Bent barrel? Or wad hitting your adapter forward of the barrel?

I doubt you will find a RDS with 36inch of elevation.

It's odd right? The barrel isn't bent, and from the powder residue on the adapter, I don't believe anything is hitting it?

Maybe it's causing the wad to yaw off course?

I never had a shotgun that mag tube extended past the muzzle. But in my head it is kinda making sense. As with say a rocket, if the base isn't flat it's gonna kick off the side that is odd and change it trajectory.

I understand, however the slugs are dead nuts consistent which I don't believe would happen if something was throwing them off trajectory? I can smash the bullseye out of a target at 50 yards, no problem...I just have to aim at the ground in front of the target to do so!?

I’ve seen large extended mag extensions on guns and it seems like they have no problems, seems like a common add on down in the states if you do any competitions that involve a shotgun.

The 835 with 14" 590A1 barrel was disappointing, but I'll fix it. I set up at 50 yards, and used a 6 o'clock poa hold on the bullseye with the front bead. Boom! Smoke clears...no hit. Tried again...still no print.

I try a combat type sight picture and hold over the bulls...boom! Still no print. WTF!? I couldn't even see where they were going...20 or 30 slugs and nothing on paper at 50 yards!? Then, in desperation I aimed at the ground in front of the target board...boom, bullseye!! WTF!? This thing shoots 3 feet high!? My mind turned to why, and how to fix it.

This is what I got for my retro 590. Mine has the ridiculously low front bead. Defender Tactical has a taller front sight that solves this issue.

Thats what I love about my 870 ... Remington or better XS Sights sells differet front sights with different heights .... I had the same issue with one of my 870s ... ordered a taller front sight ... installed it .... and all is well ever since.

Not sure if this helps but my factory 590A1 14" measures .092" from top flat of receiver to tdc of barrel. Should be able to determine if your receiver is taller off of that. Bead sight 14" shotguns have always printed high for me with slugs. Different loads hit different poi's as well. You typically need a raised bead regardless. I've found the 20" Maverick security is the minimum barrel length for proper sight regulation with slugs and the short factory bead. Even the 18.5 Maverick printed high. Going off memory, I had a 12.5" Grizzly that shot similar to your setup at 50 with the bead.

Thank you...it was unsettling. I've struggled to sight in a scope or two in my day, but I've never had something shoot that high. I'm on a waitlist for the Mossberg rifle and ghost set, and in the meantime I'm hoping this will sort it out? ht tps://defendertactical.com/products/safety-sight-bead-combo

I'll measure my shotgun with the benefit of your measurements.

Okay, so I've received and installed the defender tactical oversized bead as well as the aftermarket safety tab parts.

The bead is not as enormous as I'd imagined and went on with a 5/32 socket without incident. The safety switch was another matter entirely. ENSURE YOUR SAFETY LEVER IS IN THE REAR "SAFE" POSITION WHEN REMOVING.

The DT switch is an improvement, no doubt about it. If you remove the selector in the forward/fire position, the "tang" will drop into the trigger assembly and then the shotgun is coming apart. It's a bit of a pain to get the tang, the selector and the detent ball and spring all lined up...but after a dozen or so attempts and chasing the detent ball about the house, we got her.

I haven't shot it yet, and anticipate I'm still going to need a base and bladed sight, but if the new bead gets me even halfway to "A" zone (6 MOA) I can work with it until a blade sight comes in.

Wish me luck!

I just installed these exact parts from Defender tactical yesterday on my sbs shockwave build.
Mine shot about a foot high at 10-15m with the stock bead… the safety sight is definitely more of a rough reference point as a rear sight but im hoping to take it out this week and see how it does.
