According to gnutzguy description, each mm the barrel is "off" will put you 10" off target (he doesnt mention at what distance, id assume 100 yds/m?) If this is the case, and your rifle is 4mm off, you'd still be less than 1 degree off. As we all know there are 60 MOA in a degree, 4mm would be 40 inches or about 40 MOA (a bit less but not relevant). and that's where they will take it back under warranty, so basically the worst position you could be in is 3mm off which would be exactly half a degree or 30 moa off. Now with iron sights this obviously isnt an issue as theyre aligned with the barrel and not the reciever. But if you wanted to mount an optic, thats where youd run into trouble supposedly. However just as a point of reference the vortex diamondback tactical has 70MOA of windage adjustment (35 in either direction). All you'd need is 30 to have a usable zero. Or a holosun i have laying around has approx 100 moa of windage adjustment total, 50 in either direction...so basically sounds like this issue was blown out of proportion even more than anyone originally thought lol. The only argument left would be an aesthetic one, but If someone expects me to believe they can tell a 19 inch tube is half a degree off judging by their eye alone i dont buy it.
TIs 4mm spec works out to roughly 2ft 9" at 100m. So yah roughly 30moa of adjustment in a worst case scenario and something id agree is not an issue for 85% of optics. It does however show up pretty quick using old FFP Russian PO, PSO and POSP optics tho. Which for the combloc theme is something many Type 81 owners may be interested in utilizing. That 4mm spec works out to .482 degrees and youd be surprised how precise the human eye actually is. You can EASILY spot fractions of a degree! Thats how humans are able to use irons out to a 1000 plus yrds.
If a rifle is off by 1mm in the test TI uses to determine if a rifle will be replaced via the warranty, it is off by .121 of a degree. They will warranty a rifle off by at least 4mm i believe which is still less than half of one degree total, or about 29.02 MOA.
Ordered in 14th, shipped on 28th, carded on the 2nd and picked up today.
Small damage on the hand guard, that I will reach out to TI about but it’s not bad.
Gun is straight, and friggen cool. Very cool little blaster and I’m stoked I got one!
Also many of you are f&cking insane but this thread has been a part of my t81 journey![]()

Yeah as a paying customer I did expect more.
So when I exchange my bent rifle are they not going to inspect it ? So I can just do this over and over ? Lol 80% is probably to low of a number lol
9 outta 10 UFs on here or FB pages are bent bud but okay.
Not my problem they sold thousands of guns, I expect a product as advertised and nowhere did they say these rifles hand misaligned turrnions lol.
