Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I can't figure out how to get pics to work in here so my apologies and I hope I can explain this in a way you guys can visualize, but is a slight concave or bend along the receiver normal? If I place a flat object along the right side of the receiver it is tight on the two farthest ends but there is a 1-2mm gap in the middle, indicating the receiver wall itself is bent inwards towards the bolt assembly. It's such that I can notice the bend with the naked eye when shouldering the rifle. It also feels like there is slightly more friction when cycling the bolt (perhaps due to the receiver squeezing the bolt assembly due to the inward bend?). My T81 SE has this characteristic as well to a slight degree, but it's not nearly as noticeable.
 
JayCorbett - With the black peeled off, the underlying surface looks like a phosphate finish. A phosphate finish is the result of a chemical reaction with the surface - it isn't a coating. No idea what the black layer is that is coming off.
 
I wonder why TI decided to have these barrels threaded in m16x1 instead of 5/8"-24.....really puts a damper on putting a muzzle device on. the TNA adapter is ugly af. I wonder how feasible it'd be to turn the barrel down to 5/8"-24???
 
16-1 metric is about .630 -25.4 Imperial. I suspect rethreading to 5/8(.625")-24 might be possible, maybe just a matter of running a die over the threads. Might look a bit odd, but should work.
Might be worth trying to screw a 5/8-24 muzzle device on. Depending on stacked tolerances, it might just go on with a bit of persuasion. Worth a try.

I have one laying around, maybe I'll put some cutting oil on and stick the gun on a vice

Where is it firmly stated that the Type 81M was phosphated? All I could find on its website is this: "The bolt has been blackened for a monotone look, with the receiver finished in a black sandblasted finish". This statement is, basically, meaningless. The metal under that black coating looks to me, like zinc phosphate but I wouldn't give my head for that. Maybe Jay was shooting his rifle too fast and burned the coating?

master mount optic rail with the 3barD side mount makes the rail sit too far forward and the spent casings hit the front and bounce back causing stovepipes

Did you have to remove a lot of material from the AK safety cam to get it installed ?
 
Wondering whether the Ms have the same size trigger assembly as the SEs or the LMGs. Hopefully i can find a sweet spot in the Gen 2 geometry to support both trigger lengths in the future better.

I can take some pictures tonight when I'm home if you'd like, but not sure if you'll be able to tell anything from them
 
Anyone interested in high quality "fakelite" polymer mags? Steel reinforced lugs & lips and modified for use in the Type 81. What would you pay per mag? Note: They would not be the RWB brand (Korean, easy to break locking lugs, fails 3-4ft drop test, + weird colour).

Would be similar to these

I'd be potentially interested. I could see $40-45 being a reasonable price compared to the $30 factory mags TI offers.

Depends on the price.....some people seem to thing ANY Ak/ Type 81 mag is worth 75$ lol
