Anyone shooting a Weatherby 307 yet?

Browning barrels are made in Japan. Tikkas are made in Finland. Don't really know why people care so much where something is made. Quality is quality.

Agreed, but I'd explicitly said I don't care. Others in the thread have also said "Portuguese Win 70s and Vanguards are great!" Not that much prejudice against foreign manufacturing in evidence here yet.

It seemed like you were pretty certain that it was US made or at least that IvoB was wrong in saying it was subcontracted out. Was asking how that is. The only part they state is US made is the barrels.

"Designed and tested in Wyoming" and "built in Wyoming" do not really mean any of it was made in Wyoming.

I have one in 7mm Rem Mag. They are made in Sheridan except for a few parts I believe other US manufacturers handle for them. As for the rifle, it shoots lights out. I was 1/2 MOA after the first six shots to sight it in. the stock is not as stiff as id like in the fore-end but doesn't seem to affect accuracy so its livable with, and my plan was to drop it into an MDT stock eventually anyways. For a fluted barrel/bolt, accurbrake, triggertech trigger, magpul furniture, cerakote plus Weatherby's quality, you get a lot of gun for the $1700 you pay, and the huge aftermarket for R700 that this gun can take advantage of really appealed to me. Happy with the purchase, can't wait to take it hunting .

Sounds like there a NICE rifle ! What scope set up you using on it ?
What ammo does it like to shoot for 1/2 moa ? Are you gonna reload for it ? RJ

I have a Vortex Venom 5-25x56mm on it. Went with a pic rail for mounting the scope for the first time and I don't think I'll ever go back from it. It shoots Terminal Ascents the best, but I was getting good accuracy even with some cheap Norma ammo while i was breaking in the barrel. I do not reload, not enough time in the day to get into that for me.

I'm not sure how much I'd trust their weights. Apparently the 300wm w/26" barrel is the same 7.5lb as the 30-06 that's two inches shorter...

Pretty sure theyre just rounding up or down on the weights, and its the difference between LA or SA that contributes to the different weights. 300WM and 30/06, both LA, and I don't think 2" of barrel is gonna add much weight.

I havent pulled the trigger on one yet, but I have handled one in 7 PRC a few times at the local shop and its extremely tempting. If I had to choose between a fancy vanguard (meat eater, ibex etc) and a 307, i'd probably take the 307. Its lighter, trigger tech trigger, and the stock feels better to me. Im sure it wont be long until I have one in my collection.

Awesome! Share your thoughts if you ever do end up with it?

Would love to try one with Geissele's Super 700 trigger in it...just gettin to the point where it would be the same price as a Vanguard with some great glass

Its already got a Triggertech, why would you want to replace it?

For those wondering where the 307 is made and speculating that it’s been outsourced overseas, I did find this mentioned in a NRA article along with a quote from Adam Weatherby from when the 307 was launched.

https://www.nrawomen.com/content/new-for-2023-weatherby-model-307-series-rifle/

All rifles with Model 307 actions will be built in Weatherby’s Sheridan, Wyoming, headquarters, so shooters and hunters can expect the same precision craftsmanship that Weatherby has delivered since 1945.

While keeping the importance of compatibility in mind, we also committed ourselves to keeping this “made in the USA” rifle with a feature set and price that rivals anything out there all while keeping the quality our customers would expect from a Weatherby.” —Adam Weatherby

This in this video from Weatherby they mention that it’s a “made in USA gun” and that “a large portion of it is made in-house in Sheridan”

So it looks like they outsource some manufacturing to some other American companies.

I sure hope they’re not discontinuing the Vanguard for this…

Exchange rates make Japanese made guns more affordable to us.

I had a first Gen Vanguard, which I quickly sold. Have a second Gen 240, which I like.

Sounds like they're trying to hit a price point and quality between the Vanguard and Mark V. I really doubt they discontinue the Vanguard, every manufacturer needs a cheap/entry level offering.

Has anyone bought one yet? Im still on the fence between this and an x-bolt synthetic in 7 PRC. Its a basic X-bolt but its $700 cheaper non the less. Im just not sure what the 307 offers other than maybe a more ergonomic stock (i like that style with the pistol grip), fluted barrel and a trigger tech trigger. To me the only thing worth any extra that enhances the rifle is the trigger, the rest is purely cosmetic. And the 307 is a 700 clone, which is nice but again, $700 extra nice...?

I got $2500 budgeted for rifle/scope combo so at $1000 for the X-Bolt I can put a better scope on it and still be ahead money....

I wanted to like the X Bolt, the lack of aftermarket support (ie; Stocks) was its downfall for me. Given this 307 is 700 Clone based opens up a whole bevy of options to end users.

Given what some folk are asking for 700’s these days, I’d spend the extra few dollars, buy the Clone 307 and have a clean slate to build from going down the road.. jmo though

*edited* - I did look at the Bergara’s but they left me kinda meh ‘bout them overall..

You can actually buy just the 307 action if you want for $1180 from RDSC. But if i'm building a rifle its on a true custom action like a KS Arms, Defiance etc. But I get your point. Im a fan of the x-bolts but I also love my Vanguard Lazerguard in 257 so im torn.

$1200 is a little more budget friendly then the KS or Defiant actions for sure. Something I’ll have to keep in mind for the future.

But at the end of the day, it’s a factory action that once you put some rounds down, is worth $700. True custom actions hold their value way more and you can buy a defiance classic action for $1400 so not much more and you get a higher quality product imo. That’s worth the cost to me.
