The Shotgun In Modern Combat - Drone Defense

According Fighting Shotguns, Vietnam era flechette rounds extended the kill range of a 12 Ga to about 120 yards. The darts hold energy longer and only spread to about a six foot pattern.
The extended range is why they are illegal here.

I don't believe so, 'cause...rifles.

My understanding is flechettes were deemed cruel and unusual type of ordnance to deliver to an enemy combatant. They bend, twist and deform inside the human body, making them really tough for a surgeon to find. I believe they're internationally frowned on?

Flechette shotshells are nothing but hype really. Using some proves it very quickly. They are illegal for the same reason we can't have nunchucks or throwing stars, politicians are naturally stupid.

Some thoughts on Drone Defense and Shotguns.

Part of the problem in the US is that it's illegal to shoot drones, even your own.

Other tests you could do are checking the effectiveness of birdshot on just the blades of a typical drone.

Also, let's not forget this mythbusters classic:

Even if you can't get the drone, you might be able to get some of the gifts it is delivering...

Not a chance watch Funker530 for real world drone footage and you will see how sudden and nearly impossible to stop.

I'm amazed there isn't a signal interrupter? I would have thought there was "something" that could scramble a radio signal, and that something could be a floodlit type border defence? If they're relying on shotguns, I guess not?

They do have them on some of their vehicles, but along with needing a power source that's not man portable, they have range and line-of-sight limitations.

 That's just engineering and logistical problems. They'll sort this out sooner than later.

One issue seems to be that a continuously emitting jammer is a juicy target, particularly for home-on-jam weapons.

So that there's a need for more discreet and select directional jamming, which in turn will require a means of detecting the drones at a sufficient distance without giving away your position like an active radar system would.

As with most things, warfare is intricately complicated in some aspects, and incredibly simplified in others.

Ya he has been harping on about that on the livestreams for a year it seems. People seem to imagine the drones just hover there, not moving in on you at 50/60km, like when they catch moving vehicles. It is scary ####.

There are plenty of claims to shooting downs drones with shotguns by now. One thing that never seems to get mentioned is what sort of loads are being used though.
