picked up a strange Browning 78 in 45-70,octogonal barrel with iron sights, high gloss bluing, what makes it starnge is the engraving scenes on either side, one side has an Elk,the other a Wolf,it is definitely factory, the wood is satin not high gloss, steel crescent buttplate.it's not one of the bi-centennial engraved models since they are silver colored receiver, this one is engraved in the blued receiver only,it's marked as 78,,not B78.
i haven't been able to find another one pictured anywhere, but i would love to know what this thing is,might be rare, who knows, but it sure is beautiful mint rifle.just wish knew what it was,

Nice find... I have a B-78 .45/70... great little rifle. No idea on the engraving or rifle version. Could it possibly have been engraved after purchase and reblued? Could possibly be a one-off or limited run for the RMEF. Can you post some pictures?

I've always thought the B78 was a cool rifle, but I never pulled the trigger on buying one (no pun intended).

Hoyt those B78's a gorgeous.

I'd guess that the engraving on that particular rifle was just a certain grade, from that production year

Is it this guy?
