VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Nice work. What are you using for a bore diameter?
Thank you. I am not anywhere near your quality but I AM TRYING HARD TO GET THERE.
For 7.62x39 it is recommended to stay anywhere from 8mm to 9mm. The smaller the exit the better the braking power of the muzzle brake. I stay with 8.5mm generally to avoid possible grazing of a projectile which would significantly diminish accuracy.

From what I have seen you are not two far away;)I can help you with the black finish. What type of stainless are you using?

303. I decided not to use anything harder than the barrel thread itself to avoid possible damage to one since the pressure forward inside the brake is enormous. It is easier to replace the brake than the barrel. I will be very grateful if you could help me with anything. I'll PM you.

OK I will throw it out. Please make us a screw on fake silencer with the same thread pattern. Easy on, easy off. Make it with an internal tube that extends all the way to the end.

Now 58ers, what should it look like?

Just for you Deckard and..............Yes , the silencer is fake !!!

I love the fake can and AK74 style brakes, makes some make some!
Maybe you can make some fake cans that are small and chubby, that would look interesting. like noveske style.

And I would love to see a phantom flash hiders also.

I reccomend great distance from the bedliner gun to parts it gives it a more pebbled look than coarse texture. Or you could thin the bedliner and spray it out of a heavy primer gun for little to no texture(can even be sanded and rubbed for no texture then scrubbed with comet to remove gloss)

That all sounds pretty complicated to me. The 858 would look good with a stainless brake and black furniture, I think.

Add some stainless mount and optics, and I'd say I was good to go. :D

Now this is more like it. Pull the front sight post back to the gas block (relatively easy) then gut the can and stick it over the barrel backwards so the can still screws on. This way it looks like a krinked and silenced vz-58, and it retains its non restricted status. An additional benefit is that the fake can won't get shredded by the muzzle blast over time.

How much to do that? Ive had that idea in my noggin for awhile now of getting the sight moved back and the fake can/barrel shroud thing made?

i think it would look stupid without the can once the sight post is moved back, might as well make it permanent, save some trouble making it removable. make it same way krinker plinker is made.

It would look like an M3 grease gun or something with the sight post back at the gas block and the can off, however the benefit of it not being permanent would be that you could return it to original configuration whenever you wanted.
