VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Just for Laughs: 58 style

They say that guys own BIG GUNS because they are compensating for something.
They like big guns and magnum calibers.

I like making models and found a kit of East Bloc rifles. I painted the 58 stocks in wooden tone.

Well, this might be the smallest VZ-58 out there, and its mine. I wonder what that says? :D

that you're using reverse psychology to bluff a predominantly male forum in to thinking you have a huge wang :dancingbanana:

lol I kid I kid... What kinda models do you build? A fellow on a Ducati forum I frequent builds the most amazing life like bike models. He's got a whole workshop in his garage dedicated to model making.

Very nice job but you could simply rip off this paper thin piece of metal that is a perfect hiding spot for RUST ( I ripped off about 12 of them so far) and install yourself an original AK pistol grip. The threads are identical on both AK and VZ pistol grip screws.

but where do i find an original AK grip ? one on the picture, fits like a glove on the rifle, without modifying it. but i'd like to know still, where to get ak furniture, i looked but couldnt find anything.

thanks

Well I've been lurking with this rifle for a while now.
Other than looking cool, are they worth it?
What do you guys like about them and what do you hate?

I'm in U.S. and will ship anything legally allowed (no trigger parts short barrels complete bolt groups or any f/a parts) but I can ship you an ak grip pm me with what you need

i prefer your way , without removing the grip sheetmetal holder, it looks fine with it on .... also nice to have just in case you want to reverse back to original presto wood.

They are fun at <400m ranges. Some people hunt with them. The Marstar restricted unit is preferable as the 858 has function problems on some rifles sometimes because they are built by another firm.

They are definitely worth it.

My vz58l (chrome, non rest) is probably one of my favorite rifles.

My favorite features are:

1) rugged, reliable construction. The only thing stamped is the rear cover.

2) quite accurate

3) shoots really cheap ammo

4) field strips in seconds

Least favorite features are:

1) limited optics mounts (that's being rectified... Look for some Canadian made mounts in the near future)

2) barfwood (just get a wood or polymer stock set)

3) corrosive ammo (not a big deal. I just field strip and pour a couple kettles of boiling water on affected areas... can be a pain if you're stuck in the bush though)

All in all, they are a relative bargain. I can think of way ####tier rifles you can get for 700 bucks...

I had an idea for a neat replacement part for the VZ: An extended bolt release. If you could extend the lower part of the bolt hold-open release button out to the side and put a little paddle on it you could operate it with your pistol grip finger. That way you could release the bolt without having to use the charging handle.

Matty P, what do you mean when you say it's quite accurate? I had a friend shoot his the other week and he had difficulty hitting a dinner plate sized target from 30 meters. He and I both hit the same target at more than triple this distance with other rifles, so the fault was completely his.

I don't find the CZ-858 that accurate at all. I also find the gun takes a long time to clean because of the corrosive nature.
