Does Ruger custserv exchange new OEM rings provided with new rifles for either lower ones or 30mm ones in Canada or is that US only ?

I just bought a Hawkeye that came with 1in "medium" rings and they are comically high.

That being said the deal from northern elite for the Ruger m77 compact .308 at $999 is pretty sweet. They have a couple blued/walnut left.

Thanks. By the way it was your short barrel 358 Ruger that made me want a Ruger compact. Never found one in 358 but this one was too good to pass up. I did find a 20in stainless Hawkeye in 358 to complement the BLR.

I've got 1" Medium rings with a 40 mm Ocular lens on my compact 243 which doesn't seem comically high and zeroed at the range quite well.
Lower is always better, and a 32mm ocular or smaller would benefit from lower rings.

I do know a guy that uses extra high on all his scopes , regardless of objective size, he says they are easier to look through when shouldered without making weird neck and shoulder movements.

His average off hand accuracy at the range seems no different than anyone elses despite the " comical" looks.

That is pretty high. Looks are not the issue. Very poor cheek weld is.
There is nothing between low and medium height rings, low is too low for a 40mm objective lens, and I'd say 3-9x40 is one of the top scope sizes that sells, so I guess there's a few hundred thousands of us with the wrong setup, according to you.
It's only a problem if yiur built like this.

I have a hawkeye and went through a similar debate. The med rings it comes with are a little bit higher than I would have preferred but I wouldn't say comically high. Cheek weld is fine for me, just visually it look s little high. The difference between a med (4+5) set and a low (3+4) set is only ~3mm though.

This got me thinking about it again. Just found a #3 ring on amazon (pn 90269) for $32. Will give it a try for that much. When I first looked at this I thought I'd need 2 new rings and most places seem to price them at $60 ea

iirc you do need two new rings
Rugers require a different ring for front and rear, changing one only will get you in a bind

why not post up your rings for trade in the EE, good chance others have had to change up or down and have spares

They are different height rings front and rear but there's nothing unique about a front or rear ring. My hawkeye shipped with a 4 and 5. The next height down is a 3 and 4 combo. It just means the 4 changes position and add a 3, if that makes sense

Exactly this.

I had the same preference and found the combo that came with the Hawkeye too high for preference as well. But like explained by Jon87 its not a set of equal height rings. They are two different heights. You move the front ring to the back and buy ONE lower ring for the front.

Instead of "High" in the back and "Medium" in the front it becomes "Medium" in the back and "High" in the front. Only Ruger identifies them with the numbers that Jon87 mentioned.

Leupold used to make Ruger rings and sell them as a set, including the two, and they are a little bit lower than Ruger factory rings. But the quality of them, IMO, has gone downhill. Prefer the Ruger OEM rings.

You can easily put a 40mm objective scope in low Ruger rings.
